I'm curious, and of course that's partly because I'm a relatively newbie when it comes to doing removables in production mode but who uses cheap teeth? I'm asking, like the dollar or two dollar per card? I ask you fine folks because I believe we all on here are above average, some much more and I'm sure there's some average folks on here too. Reason I ask is because I haven't seen one, not one card out there in that price range I would ever stick into a denture or partial. They all look so fake and horrible occlusion, I have dozens, if not a hundred samples of them laying around but there isn't any way in hell I'd put them in anything leaving my door. I use Vita MFT's for pretty much everything and use Tribos 501's for my premium stuff. So you tell me, why use cheap teeth? What am I missing?...go easy on me, I did start this out saying I was a newb.

Thank you Sir, I was just curious is all...being on the fixed side for as long as I have I never really paid much attention to what cards of teeth look like. As you know, they make the brochures, posters, and mould guides look like they are from a tv show called 'teeth porn in action' but when you really sit down and compare them...yikes!!! Thought maybe I was missing something being a newb.

I couldn't imagine posterior teeth that cheap lasting long in a denture. I asked myself the same questions (and probably most people do) when I went off on my own and started looking at other tooth catalogues to see what was out there. Why spend 3 bucks per arch when you want to keep long term clients? labs can spend 10-12 for classics or artics that most basic dentures come with and they dont break any bank. Or maybe the labs that use them for long term use are the "denture mills" where every buck counts and they dont expect to see the patients 3 years later.

Well now one argument I received from an account is why spend $40-$50 per card when all he does is complete change the look of the tooth anyway buy using stains and characterization on the tooth. That is why he buys the $2 cards. But I do agree the wear that those teeth bring cannot be that long.

I'm average or at least hope at least there. I see dentures with those teeth come in for repair, often on bases that are not compatible with a cross linked PMMA. I have used some MFT for pro-bono and some hospice cases they seem nice. My cabinets are mostly Vita, physiodens & 3D. There are some junk drawers with ivoclair but I was a stocking lab in 79, so it is flipper stuff. As a removable guy most of my time, it is unlike fixed where when it is out it is never seen again. Removable have the wonder of Dogs, sink traps, drop & accidental step on when looking for, and weight loss or weight gain (another name for relines).
If you want to see what cheap looks like in 5 years use them (Cheap used to be Myerson, NewHue, now that the patients have expired there are a flock of copy teeth, most of them don't have consistent shades and are problematic to set up. For anyone looking to use them enjoy taking longer if you even try to balance, or even get centric. And some even melt when processing, some I have heard get so brittle they break off when deflasking. As for wasting time staining teeth, I suppose if you get paid for the extra time, usually the DDS expects it as an additional service. The first time the case goes out for a reline or adjustment or trhe doc or assistant cleans & shines it the pumice & polish takes all that off anyway.

A few of my docs prefer to have a set of disposable centrals placed into the wax rim. I use z dent teeth for that purpose. I would say they are cheap teeth because they are not worth $1.50/card when compared to the MFT @ $8. As AJ suggested, the efficiency lost in wrestling with cheap teeth offsets any in increase in margin. And you still are looking at crappy teeth on your product.

I don't get staining cheap teeth. As the saying goes ...you can't polish a turd.

The hardness of tribos isn't much better than a "cheap" tooth, very soft PMMA material. Would be careful with those my opinion FWIW.

I was wondering why the buzz on those had dissipated....

Thanks, Tom.
My perception (online) is that they were all the rage and then everyone started going on about Artegral. These the first comments I've read on them in some time.

I still use them when appropriate inarguably they are some of the softer teeth out there. The V moulds are very nice and as I said the posts are nice too just wouldn't be throwing them into an case opposing natural teeth, implant over dentures, or hybrids. If they changed the composition of materials to something better they would go from meh to awesome for me. I talked to some german techs and asked their opinion and they reported the same thing as I found...soft material. The price is about right for what they are for the V moulds, the other moulds however are very generic and don't warrant the price in my opinion. but to each their own... yeah I know polish the adjustment marks and they don't wear as fast, I do that... before anyone gets overly excited to bring that up! There is a reason they aren't printing their abrasion resistant graph like other companies do....just sayin

Unlike some, I dont suffer from deutsch envy. The only thing Germanic about Tribos teeth are the people selling them.
All good points and observations about the entire tooth line..glad people pay attention at the lectures.
