I'm just wanting to get some information about some mills out there and how long they have lasted you!

Also, another question. How long do you think it takes a Roland to mill a pmma arch?

depends on the arch. we have done quite a few in the past few weeks. 2-5hr average....depends if its milling flanges or not. how many preps, etc.

The Roland dwx50 that we bought when we started the lab just died, 5 years, just about 50,000 units milled. 80 % zirc, 10% wax, 10% pmma.
Rebuild would cost about 4K at this point for the various things it needs, but we decided to put it to pasture, it had a good run.

We mill between 800-1000 units a month of zirconia on 2 Wieland minis. One is just over 3 years old and the other is under 2. The "newer" Wieland has broke down about 5 times in the past 2 years and we've had to send it in for repairs and get loaners in the meantime. The original mill has only failed once since we've had it. Just gave in and bought a Sirona MX5 3 weeks ago and its head and shoulders above the Wieland mills. Faster, quieter, cleaner and easier to maintain. Sirona's design software is awful but their mills and scanners are pretty good.

Good to know! Sounds like a headache with that wieland.. with the sirona is it a closed system? do you have to use all their stuff with the mill?

No, but you do have to pay extra to be able to import .stl files from 3Shape to mill. We have the Sirona design software but it's simply not in the same league as 3Shape.

Do you have to pay extra to sirona or do you have to buy an addition module from 3shape?

WaxOnScanOff do you have a network of Cerec dentist that can send you cases? I would look at the Versamill from Axsys Dental since Argen has 50+ of them milling zirconia. A work horse and not much more than buying a Roland. Axsys is a sponsor of DLN too
