I am doing a monolithic #30 shade D2 but the prep shade is nd8. Ivoclars recommendations are HT-D2 or Lt-D2. I don't think the HT mask that prep very well and I find the LTs look dead as a monolithic. Was thinking about a value shade but have never done a monolithic value shade. Seems it would cover the darker prep better than an HT but might look more vital than a LT. If so which ingot would look best for a D2 on nd8?

I have used Value 1 for D2 shade even on ND9. You will find the value to be a bit brighter
than D2, but easily toned down. I would also use HT B1 if I had enogh thickness 1.5 buccal/ occlusal.

+1 for HT B1, I think you'll be ok if you're working with more than 1mm of room.

How thin can you make the value1 and still mask the core?

You need at least 1mm to mask ND9 to keep the value up on lighter shades.
Haven't tried V1 on an ND9 for a B1 shade yet, but D2 no problem.

You can get away with less on the other ND shades except ND6 which seems
to intensify the yellow in the V1 block/pellet.
NOT A CONCRETE RULE, but has worked for me with the cases I have tried them on.

I stuggled with an ND7 and about .6mm of room.

I was trying to match to an A1. I used an MO 1 but the dr said it was too blue???

"Too blue" as in the value was too low? How did you beat that case?
Did you try V2 or BLD 2/3 ?

Just re-read your post. M01 is not available in e.Max CAD so I don't have any experience with it.
I don't see how it could be blue as the M0s are pretty opaque white and ND 7 is a cream color.
Maybe the Doc was indulging in a little electric kool-aid?

Exactly my thoughts.

Doc cemented it and then complained.

I've been wondering about using the value ingots for monolithic posteriors.. The way its been explained to me is that LT = Dentine, HT = Enamel and the Value ingots = 1/2 way in between those two. It would seem to make a lot more sense to use the value ingots for mono posteriors. It might be a little more staining, but a lot less inventory to keep on hand. I usually use HT and pick 1-2 shades lighter than prescribed, which looks good on the model but I'd be willing to bet at least some of them are too grey in the mouth. I don't get to see many monolithic posteriors seated. Have any of you had the chance to see the values seated ?
