Just one more thing I dont know anything about. Forgive my stupidity, but...

A patient goes to the Doctor to get prepped and will leave with temps in place.
How do you design a temp from a study model with out having a model with the preps?
Is it just a thin loose shell that gets filled and squished on regardless of the prep design?

3shape copies the unprepared teeth and hollows them out.

The software cuts back approximately 1mm and the dentist cuts back 1.5mm.

Margin is trimmed at gingival.

I will receive the preliminary scans from the consult appointment.
I then can pre make the temps prior to the crown prep appointment.
Then the dr just has to scan the prep ,send me the file, and insert the premade temp.

I then can import the prep cad file and tweek it to the new margin and voila

a shiny new cadcrown

i know you are very smart, but i think also you like to do things in a very classic way.
now before any preparation you can show the patient a 3d picture of the face with new teeth on the mouth.
depending on diagnostic things and technology.
and by the way you can use technology to make a shell temps that the doc may reline on the preparation appointment.

we aren't always making temps after prepping. in fact most often I'm making temps prior to any teeth cutting. additionally, most often they are part of a more complex case where 'squishing' them into occlusion isn't an option.
we are opening the bite among other things.

Scanning works well-just prep pre-op model. We use ExoCad for some situations. Exocad provisional module works well-but no model is produced.

We still prep, pack (denture flask method) and heat-cure 90% of our temps.
If you feel it's not worth the effort send me a pvt message-we give labs a discount. Been making temps since 1977

Hello !
I have to make temporary crowns, so I have the impression of living 11 natural teeth with no prep.
I will make small preparation and doctor will correct gaps. This temporaty is for not more than one month.
Dr`s want it in diffrent configurations, some like full bridge some separate them.

So My question is
solo temporary crowns or temporary bridge ?

whether you do cad/cam temp or processing your own temp with acrylic the contour and finishing touch is whats really important when you are making a temp. Too tell you the truth many techs out there doesnt know how to make a high quality temps. They think they know but many doesnt and that is because they never made a high end quality temp. Its sad the young new techs these days doesnt get to learn the real techniques of old ways and just getting used to the CAD Systems. The computers might do faster and easier for you but it would be much more better if you had the knowledge of morphology of a tooth.
