Is there a way in Exocad or any cad software for that matter, to design a zirconia plug that goes into the screw channel?

You could add a cylinder or pin , of the same diameter as your hole, to the lingual surface of your crown .

Then just cut it off and voila !

Sounds like a good idea, but how would the doc 'pull the plug' so to speak?

That's an excellent idea. One more question then, how do I do that?

it works so well in 3Shape. I made a 3 unit sr-bridge in about 15 clicks. lets you pick diameter of your hole and you just match it up to the metal interface diamter. usually 3x5 or 2x5

Interestingly this is part of my extensive library (2.98x7 mm )...dunno what is for or who shared it with me, but sure could serve as a plug...:D:D:D

could you just import the restoration file back into cad as a scan file and design a simple inlay.... I am not sure what tools you would need to close off the hole at one end. Maybe import the model file as well and merge them. Good luck!

So after the plug is inserted ( and cemented I assume) , how does the dr access the screw later?

How cares...you supposed to change your name and address after sending each of these type of cases out, no ? :D:D:D

This technique works great:

Just add a build up on top of the abutment in the desired shape up to the occlusal in (Freeform Scan Data).

Edit the designed crown occlusal region minimizing thickness around the screw hole.

Cut though the zirconia occlusal hole after or before the crown is sintered.

Not calling you out! Just love to see what you can do with 15 clicks. I use more than that just to get the pontic the way I want it..
