I got a request from a doctor for C4 tooth shade on the upper portion of the tooth and C3 tooth shade for the lower portion of the tooth. How can this be accomplished?

Thanks!

You really need to call your doctor and ask if the C3 is the incisal 1/3 or 1/2 etc. If its only the incisal 1/3, build with C4 and add more enamel to match the enamel on the C3 tab.
If its 1/2 1/2 build with dentin C4 and C3 for best results.

Just the way you said it, Id take it that the doctor was seeing a C3 tooth with slightly darker blue/gray on the incisal or occ. Like Charles said though...call the office for clarification. Could be the assistant wrote the prescription and missed exactly what the boss intended.

Give them what they want, not what they ask for...:D Whenever you're in doubt ask the doc. Now if you were to take the tooth number being restored, or the arch it's on th and C3 in the respective zones.en you can deduce the upper and lower portion of the teeth.

Not your fault for not understanding however, just shows how dentistry has evolved. Some docs won't write out the script much less draw a diagram. Leaves a lot of room for error in the translation and the lab is usually left holdin.
Call the doc and mention the use of a hand drawn pic at minium.Good luck

Forgot; from a technical standpoint if it's a pfm use the corresponding opaques and porcelains in the respective zones. Make sure you blend the transition zones in the opaque and porcelain layers respectively. Zr? then core=C3, and build with C4 and C3 in the respective zones.

:lol::lol: i was waiting for this - couldn't see how it became a ceramist's issue.
Get a C3 and tint the neck with stains, Composite staining kit.
Or same with a ceramic denture tooth.
Or.......... have a custom made tooth made up with composite or ceramic.
EEEEZYPEEEEEZY

find your GC Gradia supplier for good stuff. Any decent Composite system should have a staining kit that'll bond to resin teeth.
You'll need some playtime now to practice. :)

Hi waxa, the poster evanosu would have got a more accurate response if the thread was in the 'removables' section. It got a bit lost down here in the misc' department.
communication is the key to success - see thread in removables "Everything you wish dentists would do... "
