Hi guys,
I know that the topic has been posted before, but I can not fix it.
I need to create holes in a crown(this case a wing),but exocad doesn't allow it.
If i try to make a hole in merged restoration it will get filled to minimum thickness.
There is no option for "Allow any changes".
I have added the line
"<AttachmentInFreeformShowOptionAllowTouchAnything>true</AttachmentInFreeformShowOptionAllowTouchAnything> " without any results.

This is defaultsettings.xml
<?xml version="1.0"?>

<!-- DO NOT MODIFY THIS FILE! It will be overwritten during update process Instead, copy it to "settings.xml" and make your changes there (you can remove the tags that remain unchanged - entries in settings.xml will override entries in defaultsettings.xml) -->

-<ApplicationSettingsProviderCAD>

<SkinFile>generic\Theme.xaml</SkinFile>

<ShowWizard>true</ShowWizard>

<AlwaysShowExtendedPlacementDialog>true</AlwaysShowExtendedPlacementDialog>

<AutodetectRequiredConnectors>false</AutodetectRequiredConnectors>

<BackgroundImagePosition>LowerRight</BackgroundImagePosition>

<HideHelpButton>false</HideHelpButton>

<AddRemoveMeshAllowLoadImage2D>true</AddRemoveMeshAllowLoadImage2D>

<AttachmentInFreeformShowOptionAllowTouchAnything>true</AttachmentInFreeformShowOptionAllowTouchAnything>

<AlwaysApplyMillingDiameterBeforeBlockOut>true</AlwaysApplyMillingDiameterBeforeBlockOut>

</ApplicationSettingsProviderCAD>

I have Exocad build 6136.

What can I do?

After editing the xml file you will need to restart exocad for the changes to take place.

Save your design as stl. Reimport in new job as waxup/copy mill. Or start over and redesign in same job after exocad restart.
After merging the parts at the end of design use expert mode to punch the holes into the restoration.

I have already restarted exocad and the computer a couple of times, but it didn't work.

You are trying to cut hole AFTER the restoration is merged at the end of design or before?

What I do for hole in screw retained crowns:
Modify scan data and build up implant close to occlusion.
Design crown and drill down to abutment with edit tools leaving minimum thickness of .5mm
Fabricate crown.
Punch through thin section with tools for hole in crown

Works great!

If you are using build # 6136 there is no need to add the xml edit.

'Allow any Changes' only shows in the free form box after the parts are merged.

Ok, but how can I can I then make holes in a crown or onlay with this build?
I am trying to make the holes in the merged restoration.
@Ken Knapp: I am doing this for crowns for my lab, but these jobs are for a client where I am only designing and sending him the design back for milling in metal.
So the holes need to be in the design.

After merging the design switch to expert mode.

Right click and select free form restoration.

In the free form dialog box at the top select ATT.

Select remove, scroll to and select extrusion.

Select the cylinder and position it on the design, scale it to the size you need.

Click 'allow any changes'. Click apply. Click Ok.

When prompted by exocad select save free form changes.

That's what I did, but there is no 'allow any changes' option.
After I attach the cylinder it is closed.

I have never tried cutting hole in a veneer or inlay, maybe it is not possible??Hmmmm2

Zip the CAD scene and send to [email protected] via exocad.wetransfer.com
Ask them if it is possible. You should get a quick answer.

Try this. Save the design as stl. Start a new job in DentalDB as wax up/ copy mill. Import the jaw scan and the design as the wax up scan.
After the parts are merged try cutting the hole in the new merged part or send me a down load link for the CAD scene and I'll give it a try.

It is also not working for crowns for me. Maybe my version is faulty. I will contact exocad.

@2thm8kr
Im having a similar issue. On screw retained crowns, I can position the cylinder no problem, but I cant find the 'allow any changes' you mentioned. I get a nice channel down to the min thickness, but cant punch through that with my design.
:(

Make sure the part is merged and do it in expert mode. If you are using a version before build # 6136 you will need to edit the default settings xml file to add this feature.

Remember me?..... Was having same issue, though I'm using an older version i might add.. I added the xml line and it worked for a while. Then suddenly stopped i re added the xml tag again .....but nothing. ... Min thickness remains after remove function. I have done everything suggested above over and over and over and over and ov............. Call me crazy ....or dumb and stupid...just dont call me .....
