You know what cracks me up? People constantly pushing for new features when most people are only utilizing about 30% of the softwares capabilities as it is?.... Lol..

You are absolutely right NicelyMKV, this is a real issue, if a customer only using 30% of the features then it really doesn't matter what CAD software they use.
This all comes down to training and here the re-seller has a huge responsibility. We normally provide our customers with 2 days training onsite followed up by another 1 day onsite training within 3 months. In addition we provide quarterly update reviews online and yearly user conferences when a new release is available (such as Dental System 2013). This is an ongoing effort and my point is that you can't fund this kind of service without an ongoing revenue stream (such as an annual licence fee).

I am not sure if dental wings will ever be as good as a Com 64! Sorry only pulling your leg.

Hey, I use to program Basic on a TRS-80 in very early 80's

BEEP-BOOP... Won a programming competition in 3rd grade.

Then, played with Apple II, Apple IIc, and the Atari 800.

I remember the very first Digital Porn. Called "French Post Cards".

Mid-80s? or so

Tape drives and Floppys! YEAH!

(but I am sure if I broke down the source code, it would be in shambles too).
Exocad.. bad source code?

As a very good writer of bad source code, I would ask the following...who cares here in this forum? Can you use it? Is it easy? is it profitable? Is it fast? Are the results good? I could care less if it's written in Sanskrit with bad grammar.

Cheers,
Pragmatist Patrick

Kudos to you - you're right. Quite frankly I just did not enjoy the UI for exocad -

But truth be told, even though this thread got a bit heated, there was very good information passed around.

(So we can all put away our reeves carvers now and go back to making teeth.)

btw good morning/afternoon/evening.

Hello Patrick! How is everything going?

Eyes, I hope you didn't mistake me for being heated. Sometimes texts and emails can be taken incorrectly;) I found exocad to be much more user friendly as I started utilizing the hot keys more. Seems like pretty clean, bug free software for the most part? Import whatever you want, register the meshes quickly and accurately etc.. Pretty cool;)
I also move in and out of the basic UI and the advanced UI throughout my design phase.

I didn't think anyone got upset, I just know people are touchy because these are all systems we spend money on so we want to feel that we made the right decisions.

For my lab, we work with our own proprietary software for the fixed stuff, so I guess you can say we are spoiled because I got to design it the way I saw fit for my workflow.

But yes, I started trying out the hotkeys and it did wonders. Not sure if it's the version I have or what but it has crashed on me a few times.

As I said before, these forums are chock full of information, and this thread likewise.

Happy monday y'all

Can you post some screen-shots of this "propriotory software" for us to see in all it's glory?

exocad does not crash. period.

Never heard that One in my life.

You must be very talented indeed to make that happen, or full of 5hit.

Hello Patrick! How is everything going?

bluuuurrrrrry. Goes by so fast but things are great. GPR planned down in North Carolina starting next year. No time for fun stuff like writing software :-( Although I did get sucked into a UI addon project for Blender that's planned to be integrated into the official Blender source (kinda cool...left my mark and gave back). Currently my focus is graduating on time.

thread hijack complete,
-Patrick

Sorry, my boss would definitely not like me divulging more about our software - and their NDA is pretty iron-clad. If you've been surfing around the CAD/CAM industry as long as I think you have, you would recognize the company instantly. The only difference is that I've had the opportunity to spend time with their entire R&D team and redid significant areas in their software (which is why I say it's proprietary for my company). They also made their own scanners and have their own industrial milling machines (not reskinned or rebranded - I actually was at their assembly line for the scanners and built one from start to finish).

In terms of my talent - while I would not say I could do an aesthetically pleasing 10 color porcelain build up (i can do a relatively ok one) - my qualifications and credentials are a bit more than just experience in the lab and a dental technician's degree.

I will try to resimulate where it hangs in Exocad and post a screenshot. I suspect it is more to do with the STL file i'm using more than anything else

Made their own scanners and milling machines huh?

And, Software you say? Hmmmmm.....

Nope. Can't think of any lab/business in the US that has done that except Glidewell, but I don't think they made a scanner for labs.

The only mill they made was the Bruxzir mill, and I think that program quickly folded.

The only other business in the US that has made a mill I think is Kim at Dental Digital Whatever? his name?

They have no software

Now I am really finding it hard to believe you.

Can you not be proud of where you work, and what you do?

Seems very weird to me?

Yes I have been doing this about as long as you have been alive. LOL

So, you cannot say where you work? AND their amazing software is not for sale? (must be great!)

What about these mills. Those not for sale also i am guessing?

exocad does not hang-up or crash. Period. It is the #1 selling software in Europe for 2012.

That's how sucky it is! ;)

Mill from Primacon CNC in Germany (Helios 500 is the real name of current big mill)

Scanner from Steinbichler Optiks in Germany

Material and software was developed by ESPE and companies above before 3M purchased.

I think software was from steinbichler and maybe geomagic with a dash of Materialise.

So....No. Not even close.

Intra Oral scanner also came from outside.

Pretty much nothing is actually developed by 3M IMO.

I work at Town & Country Dental Studios. That's a no brainer and most of you already knew that. I just can't say who or what I'm working with, that's all :)

Who said anything about the US? haha :D

Sorry, but I doubt many or any of us know that. Why would we?
This is the Town and Country from NY that is part of Terec group?

If so, then I already work with you guys and will be doing more very soon!
You guys are buying software from me and getting training. LOL
You should know that. I'll go find out these questions myself then I guess.

(Actually I never heard of Town and Country, should I have?)

You have your own Industrial mills and scanners and software huh? uh-huh

I like to see this, (and I will)

Scott
We will see about that

Yes Town & Country is part of TEREC.

Buying software from you and getting training huh? That's news to me. Other TEREC members might be, but we are all independently owned so what they do has no bearing on T&C specifically.

As far as T&C goes, we are not getting any sort of training any time soon -

But it would be nice to match a face to avatar/name on here so you're always welcome :)
