Why do the big implant companies complicate everything?!?

Yeah, he came by here, too. But since I stopped using Atlantis a long while ago, I didn't have anything for him, either...
I figured he would hit all of the labs in town.

There is nothing worse than spending time trying to figure out parts for an implant case on the OEM sites!! Example: A client wanted only Nobel Biocare authentic parts on one particular case. So I had to go order a scanbody. I click on CadCam products, postion locators as scanbody isn't an option, then select nobel active/connical connection, RP for the size, and boom! it shows me two options and I choose the one that applies to my case. Receive it in the mail, scan and send to nobel for design (since I have exocad and they're not friends apparently). Get a call the next day informing me I used the wrong scan body and they can't use it. It must be the Elos. So why in the #$&%^#@ *&%@@ would they not not even pop up as an option to buy?!?!?!?!?!?
I just struggle soooo much when I have to use the straumann or nobel or zimvie websites! Sucks to be dumb.

That's all...continue about your day as you were.

Just had the pleasure of being forced to do a straumann custom abutment. I set the order up in exocad correctly. But during the design the only option for my abutment size was only available in the TAN option. So I chose that. Upon finishing I went to use their order tool but forgot that was on an old computer so called tech support to install it for me. It was installed and we tried to upload the case, whereupon he informed me it prolly wouldn't work because I designed the digital model and they have major anxiety when other files are in the folder and can't do anything but scream in fear. So he says let's try anyway. It didn't work because I had chose TAN during the design and Titanium when setting up the case. Whereupon I asked How am I supposed to know which implant sizes have to be used for certain materials? Do you have a chart that explains when to choose what for which implant? He said yes but I'm not allowed to share it. Then I thought, how amazingly dumb is it to not have some sort of information available in the system to help you make the right selections so you don't have to redesign when you find out that material won't work? Granted, I know I chose Titanium for the material then selected TAN during the design as it was the only option (but if it's the only option wouldn't you feel safe in progressing forward with the design?) Anyways, we go to start a new case and lo and behold! He had cleared out the entire database!!! Sure all the cases are still available to import but it was nice to have the convenience of loading from the DB rather than being forced to drive through files.
Anyways, I redesigned the case and sent it.
Thanks as always for wasting 1.5 hours of my day. And thanks for clearing out my DB. And thanks for not sharing your chart of material and implant compatibility. I think it would be nice to have when setting up a case. But I'm a weirdo.
Also, I hate Straumann.

i love the way zimmer have encode then they want me to pay big bucks for the honor of using it any zimmer clients that do a bit of volume i give them the scan bodies

Not only did they clear my exocad database but they changed the file directory where everything was saved!! Called them today to very kindly and nicely ask them to fix where my new cases would be saved and they just don't know how to do that.
Lovely.
The time wasting timer is back on. I'm at 25 minutes for today. I'll tally it all up when finally fixed.

I'm not going to say anything. Just know I'm feeling...flabbergasted

Honestly, I try and solve all my issues without calling my supplier most the time now. I've come to realize the people who you talk to on the phone are rarely even computer minded people and often are following some set script that typically uses a bunch of work arounds in an less than efficient way, usually fixing one thing while messing up many others. After I had to install a new version of exocad on the computer and spent an hour and a half on the phone for them to essentially drag a zip file they don't allow public access too onto my computer. They obfuscate in order to try and keep it proprietary but honestly 99% of the time they just are making it more complicated than it needs to be. I now keep backups of exocad installations on our server and can just drag and drop them to computers as needed, still need the dongle to use it so I really don't understand why I can't just download it from their website.

You need to talk to Jake at Old Dominion. He can walk you through anything dealing with Exocad. They are also a vendor of unbranded Exocad, so you get all the features, not the ones that some other companies leave out

Are they still in business ? Their website is down for quite some time...

Jake is no longer with Old Dominion, but he was always a wealth of information!
