Hi guys and girls...
I am a bit of a newb when it comes to all things cad, but I am finding my way steadily. I have a question for those who know much more than myself...
I have the AG system in my lab, which includes 2 motion 2 DNA mills, lab scanner and design software. My lab is specialising in digital splints and we are having fantastic success with what we are doing here. Our current workflow only involves scanning models in the lab at this stage - purely because we haven't had a client with IOS approach us to go down that path... until now! This client is a very, very well known specialist and it would be great for our business to get them on board. They are interested in doing a few trail cases utilising the Trios IOS that they have in their clinic which I am happy to do free of charge, because I am absolutely confident in the work we are putting out. Now here is where the question lies... I don't have the trios inbox on my system just yet - I can't justify the outlay for the software for a trail. there are no trail versions of the inbox available to us so we can't actually do a case or 2 to see how it will work for all of us involved. Is there a way in the 3shape software to turn the received scan file into an STL which can then be on sent to a 3rd party>? I figured that surely if you can send scan files to a lab to have models printed they need to be in STL format to do this right..? Having said this, I am sure if it was possible, 3shape will have found a way to make it impossible! I have colleagues in other labs that I can call upon to do this for me if it is possible.
Any advice, help or direction will be most valuable!

AG CAD is exocad. Exocad can be configured to open Trios files. AG should be able to edit your default settings XML file to make this work. Then it is just a matter of the client side sending you the Trios files via another compliant ftp.

listen to 2th. Exocad Genius.

as to Trios, theres a few ways to skin that cat. you can either direct this dentist to do one of several things:

1. have his dongle opened to stl export natively. however for Trios clients this is about 1500$ ish flat fee to do. otherwise

2. have this client make the models via 3rd party before they even get to you. nomally via 3shape communicate they will be able to find a local lab in their trios-ready client list. this doc just needs to direct the 3rd party to ship models and email stl scans (automatically converted in 3shape model software) to you.

3. export the case to DDX romexis software, which is a per-click (per case) fee for both parties (you and he). this is a simple change in the order form on the Trios.

Trios can export a .3oxz file. You can edit your xml file to be able to accept .3oxz and then happy days.
