The simplest way to curb the influx of Chinese dental prosthesis isn't with a monetary tariff.. if they could hold every outbound and inbound dental package legally in customs for one month each.. that might change things.. Maybe not, I hear that happens anyways.

I'm going to do an "ackchyually" moment here. Most of the US Debt is intra-governmental and/or held by the public and/or held by the Federal Reserve. China owns about 1.1 trillion with Japan around the same number. They have actually increased their US Debt about 15% over the past year. Japan was the #1 foreign holder of US debt for the longest time. So it is more appropriate to say China holds more US Debt than any other foreign country - but it is still "only" about 5% of the total US Debt.

I don't know why I am posting this - as it really doesn't change the fact that I agree with your post overall.
5%? I always assumed it was much more the way some political folks carry on about it.

1.1 Trillion is only 5%. 22 Trillion dollars.
22,000,000,000,000.00
That would be enough to fill up a pretty big hole.
Hope you folks aren’t planning on retiring any time soon..

F! Wally World. Rare occasion I ever step foot in that place or order from them online.
I'm looking forward to a trade war. I think it may be rough at first, but I think the Country
will benefit in the long run. I think we have given our wealth to other countries long enough.

As far as the tariff on imported prosthetics, I think they should be taxed at a rate that makes them the
same cost or more than an average crown made here Stateside.

Well said i could not agree more! 25% of $20...errr you do da mat...

It's a lot of money to be sure, but yea, some people act like China owning our Treasuries means they hold a tremendous amount of political power over us. That is simply not true. China could sell all their T-Bills tomorrow - the Fed would buy them and they would be resold the very next day with people lining up to buy them.

To be honest, the bigger problem we face in this country is the unfunded liabilities like the Ponzi schemes that are Social Security and Medicare. Some say it is over 100 trillion dollars.

Cold hard facts.
We've been lied to for many years. Our politicians have been screwing us in our sleep and we don't seem to care. We cant reach the point where we just move the decimal point and drop some zeros like Venezuela. Read up on the Weimar Republic. We're there folks. We have debt that cant be paid off. We're making minimum payments on the credit card and we cant catch up. Theres going to be a global reset and a thinning of the herd.

The day of reckoning is coming. The American public's economic ignorance and apathy will be our downfall. We have half of the nation cheering for socialism and the other half cheering on a trade war. Banghead

"The step came in retaliation to the 25 percent tariff on over 1,300 Chinese products introduced by the Trump administration earlier this week. The US list covers machinery, electronics, uranium, flamethrowers and even dental devices."

I know, it's not technically a trade war (yet),but it's interesting with over 40% of all restorations placed in the mouth of U.S. patients, that those restorations came from overseas. I'm all for this personally, I'm actually one of those guys who doesn't shop at Walmart, I prefer the local grocery stores. I also personally know that hey, different strokes for different folks, and you may like Walmart, it's all good...but either way, what say you?

I don't like Wmart, and yet I shop there , I'm a hypocrite ;-p I do find it interesting that the dental supply manufacturers are now saying that they will need to increase costs here in the US. I wonder if they are also increasing costs overseas?

Prices in most things are what the market will bear. We'll moan and kvetch, but will pay. Other places may not, and may not have the regulatory burden that US or EU (or EE UU :) ) sales require.
