to minimize the cement when seating a crown over a implant abut., a dr. requested a separate "die" (less cement / less clean-up) This my first request for this. Is there a simple (for a simpleton) technique for this??

If you are digital, have a die of the abutment printed.
If not, use lab putty to make an impression of the die and pour in stone.

There is a technique that uses plumbers tape and blue mousse bite registration material to accomplish that. I'm going duck hunting with one of my Docs in the morning, I'll try and remember to ask him, he was the one that explained it to me.
