I do it between 50, 60 with scaning on my D700. But as you mentioned, depends on cases. I have few customers who outsource to me to scan and design. Few are simple and I do their work as if it would be mine. And I consider myself as above average tech. Got a customer who breaks me everytime. 50 microns here, 50 there, rarely that he's satisfied. And he has a lot of "strange" pain in the ass cases. So really depends what and for who you work for.

digital pugatory! I'd rip my eyes out with an ash#5 if I was stuck doing that all day.

Sounds to me like a nice calm meditative way to spend a day. No intense personality management, no paperwork...
