Any ideas on how to recruit a lab manager/ technician to run a small lab setup? How would you go about verifying ability and experience?

you could try a recruiter, there are maybe 3 i've seen that post for various labs on indeed. one is called DSC smiles

You should be able to give some Doctors that they have worked with a call to find out what type of leader they are and it will only take a few minutes of conversation with the candidate to know if they know what they’re talking about or if their F.O.S. , I like to make them Q.C. a bit of work as well.
