Would it be safe to do so for a trial stage in order to assess fitting/bite of crown, or should it be avoided due to the fact that it may be difficult to remove for permanent cementation and consequently harm the crown & tooth?

There is good mechanical retention, and remaining molar is well sized and healthy after prep. It's a first maxillary molar. Zirconia crown is monolithic Katana STML.

Please advise.
TIA

Try mixing a little petroleum jelly in with some zoe cement. See below:

HIgher Strength (>900MPa),Lower Translucency materials it should not be a problem with thicknesses over 1mm.

Lower Strength (<900MPa),Higher Trranslucent materials I would not risk it (these materials are similar in strength as Lithium Disilicate glass ceramic and it is recommended to NEVER temporarily cement those).
