To let you know of the implant placement on some of those cases. They are cancer patients that had a fibula graft. Where the original placement was supposed to be before the graft, sometimes doesnt happen in the end. Then the magic begins:) I like the challenge...:)

Its always gratifying to restore patients that have been through the torture that cancer can put on a body. When we are forced to work outside the box it can be satisfying when a plan comes together. A couple of those bars were pretty innovative.

Again its nice to have you here.

Hell of a time to join the forum Danny, right in the middle of a war zone. It's not always like this on here only about every 6 months or so lol. Good to have you here looks like you have a lot to offer up just by glancing at your work. Love the website by the way.

Wellcome Danny,

Ignore the negitive energy, soak up the positive.:grouphug:

I have seen a lot of inplant substructures in my day, but not as nice as some of yours. I know who I will be subing implant frames to when I get back to So.Cal. Some really nice stuff!

Thank you all for the comments. Good or Bad, I can take it. Their are some very talented techs on this sight. As you can see I have chosen to focus mainly on implant related prosthesis. All of my bar cases are Laser assembled in house, with having the option of milling as well. Viewing on here what other techs are doing for waxing, processing, and finishing techniques is interesting. We all have our own little niche to get the job done. popcorn

Hi everyone!

What shade will you use for canines ( a bit darker) if anteriors are C1? C2 seems too dark to my taste. What do you think about C1 in general? Too grey? Teeth are phonares, and I am a patient, and I want as natural looking upper denture as possible.

What shade in general looks natural? It very difficult to find a dentist or a denturist who will do customized natural looking dentures....It seems that I know more about characterization and various teeth brands than any dentist/denturist I have talked to so far. :( I talked to four. I tried to find a service which will please me, calling dental labs and asking them to refer me. But they said that they do not give references. I feel lost....

Teeth are phonares, and I am a patient, and I want as natural looking upper denture as possible. I am going to do some dental work on my lowers too. Right this is what I have on my lower jaw: C3 crowns on molars and premolars and very expensive lumineers on centrals and laterals that look horrible because of mismatching shade (D2). My previous dentist wanted to make my teeth look "whiter" and although I protested chose this shade. I though that C2 on my uppers will match with D2 on my lowers. I plan to change other crowns for D2 as well.

What shade in general looks natural? Forgot to say that I live in Oklahoma and find it very difficult to find a dentist or a denturist who will do customized natural looking dentures. They do not want to do tinting, staining, and would not want the teeth roots and gum tissue look natural .... They just look at me and say they do not do such things. And yes, I know more about characterization and various teeth brands than any dentist/denturist I have talked to so far. :(

Thoughts about canines and shades? Many thanks in advance!

If you don't have confidence in the practitioner, even if they make the perfect denture, you will not value the service. You're better off finding the dentist who you can trust and form a relationship with the clinic. Phonares are a beautiful line of teeth, but may not be the best teeth to recreate your smile.

Thanks, I agree completely. I do not want to create drama here. My question is simple: What shade will you use for canines (I understand that they need to be a bit darker) if anteriors are C1? Teeth are Phonares. Thanks so much for your answer!

Ask a very close family relation to attend with you, and allow him/her to make the decision as to what looks good. IMO.

The 'naturalness' of the teeth selected depends on a variety of things. Think about your skin tone, the lip colour, lip shape, eye colour, hair colour, smile shape, etc etc. Looking at the teeth out of the mouth makes it very hard to appreciate, but seeing a tailor-made set in the mouth can be a revelation. Try not to look at the teeth in the mirror, but try to look at the face/the person. If you have photos of family members who had a similar arrangement to you when younger they can be used as a guide in some cases. IMO the patient isnt the best person to choose a shade for best results, you gotta trust someone else.

If you haven`t seen his work check out Richard Greenlees on Facebook . He is a master of the natural denture. I think also he will be doing some coarses in the states. I don`t think you will find better !! He is also a superb ceramist, worked in the "West End " and has now returned to Newzealand.

Thanks for your answer araucaria. Yes, I know about all these factors. Taking a family member is out of the question, because I am pretty vulnerable and do not reveal my dental situation to relatives. I am relatively young too, so my dental situation and my appearance matter to me. Yes, I have photos of my daughter's teeth. I do want to trust someone, but, as I said, I haven't found anyone whom I can trust completely. Of course I am not a professional, but I am a well prepared patient. I do know a lot, because I have read lots and lots of research articles on the subject and multiple posts from this site. Finding someone whom I can trust is a problem. I tried to call labs asking to refer me to a specialist who produces natural looking characterized dentures, but it seems that labs do not refer and do not spread such information to public. It is very difficult to make a judgement looking at the websites. Any ideas on how to look for a specialist or a team of specialists (dentist and a technician) who is willing to work with a patient collaboratively and who is willing to produce natural looking dentures?

Hi everyone! I hope you will not mind me asking for a feedback.. Here is a waxup of my Maxillary denture (my photos).

Anteriors Vivodent PE Shade 2A Mold A36. I do not know what is the mold for posterior teeth. Mandibular: I have had implants for 10 years on my posterior teeth, and the crowns are also old-10 years. The shade is off... I have mega expensive crowns on my mandibular anterior teeth. Shade is also kind of funny ( I haven't been happy with this) - close to D2....

My concerns: I am not satisfied with the quality of the teeth Ivoclar PE.. I also have some concerns about the set up...To my mind, the denture teeth do not look like natural teeth at all. I wanted to have Tribos, or Merz, or Physiodens, but my denturist said he does not work with these teeth. He also did not want to do colorization and staining.....So characterization is suffering....More: I do not like that the posterior Maxillary teeth look too short...And maybe canines need to be rotated?

I would appreciate if you could give me your feed back in terms of the set up and characterization and quality of teeth, so I can talk to my denturist about some modifications when I have another appointment... Right now I just feel like teeth just look fake....And I want to have teeth and a smile that look as natural as possible ...

Thanks so much in advance!!!!

Looks a little locked in to me, I would probably have gone with a 10 degree tooth and would have left off second bicuspid, then moved 1st and 2nd molar up. The midline looks off and looks like the incisals on the centrals need to be brought out facially a hair to help shorten a bit and to give space so the bite won't be locked in. The lateral incisors need necks tucked in a bit and maybe lowered a bit, watching to keep incisal edges from being locked with lower. Bring cuspid incisal out facial a little. The tooth shade needs to match the lower anterior teeth which are more in the grey range , the ones you have for try in are more yellow. They need to be a little more translucent, I like the Hereaus teeth. You don't need custom staining but unless you want your gums to shine in the sun, I would have least put a little stippling and more anatomy.

Thank you so much Flippercentral! I really appreciate it!

I little bit of history: I have been working with this denturist since July 2012 (9 months!!!),and all the time there is misunderstanding and delays. He was new in town ,and just started his business moving from another state....I didn't know about it, but now I understand that a lot could be explained by this fact. It is really a long story: first, he picked teeth without actually talking to me about this choice, so the set did not work. Another try: we picked the shape of the teeth and he ordered bluline teeth which I didn't like at all. Then he had some problems with business and I had to interrupt for a month. Then we started all again, and again by mistake he ordered wrong teeth compared to what we talked about... I don't think he took any notes when he was talking to me...And I asked if he can work with more translucent teeth especially at the incision edge, he would not do this. I am waiting for weeks for an appointment and when I come, he would not see me, but just would leave the denture with me to take home. So, I am very very disappointed and I am loosing my bone, and currently I can't smile, and prefer not to talk because my previous denture does not fit anymore.... Yes, a disaster. I payed half price for this denture I am about to stop the whole thing with this denturist.. I know that I am not an easy patient because I have my own high expectations, but I trusted him, and I hoped that the whole thing will work out.... I guess I just need to be realistic and realize that I will never get what I want here... And what do I want? I just want to have a denture that will not look like denture! In the past 3 months I have been observing plenty of natural teeth, and I saw pictures of dentures that look like real teeth, I read lots and lots of research articles about dentures, and I was reading this forum a lot.. And I do know a lot.... I like teeth that have a translucent incisal edges, and possible have have mamelon effect. I like teeth that are anatomical... I want a customized polichromatic denture base with charactrization, maybe staining of the teeth routs..I want that my teeth are set in a way which is true to life...I want my phonetics to be preserved...And I know that all the above is possible... and I know that there are denturists out there who can produce real pieces of art! I really appreciate the work of you all here on this forum...I also see that you are sensitive to your patients' needs... This means a lot...

Actually, I started with another dentist in January 2013 (denture #2),who is doing the dentures himself (he has a small lab and setting the teeth on his own. He was recommended to me as the best in the city. He agreed to work with Phonares (initially suggested Justee Imperial... I did my research, and realized that I do not want these teeth for sure),did not want to try any other teeth like the ones discussed on this forum. He does not want to do staining of the teeth, wants to stick to his preferred raisin for the base which is Lucitone 199,.. He picked shade C1 for the upper, which actually matches with the D2 Mandibular anterior better than A2. The issue is that this dentist mainly communicates with me through his assistant (nurse?) which again creates difficulties... I will post pictures for the second set too, again asking you for your feedback....

And thank you very much for reading my story and for your feedback... It is also a view from the other side...Hope may be interesting for you to know how patients like me feel about this subject...And what they may expect...

You're welcome! Sounds like you are going to have to pay more to get a denture like you want and maybe go to a prosthodontist that specializes in complete dentures. The reason your denturist doesn't want to try too many teeth is because each set costs him money and a cut rate denture is not going to make him much profit. Lucitone 199 is a good acrylic but again if you want it stained you are going to have to pay more. I'd match the tooth shade with your lower centrals instead of the crowns, I think you'll be happier. When I go buy a car I go in wanting to buy a really cheap car, but then know I also want airconditioning, power brakes, cruise control etc..... so that brings the price up. Dentures are the same, you can buy the Yugo, the Toyota Sedan or the Mercedes Benz. Personally, I want the toyota but want them to also wait on me with coffee, snacks and a friendly receptionist in a modern office. This is what you'll get if you find the right prosth, just make sure you know what you are going to pay up front and get everything in writing.
