Well Gita
There is currently only one significant project that has launched (pre)sales already...
B9Creator. There are several others in the works though. DLP based printing is a growing pursuit of the 3d modellers. 100 and 50 micron XY and 10-100 adjustable Z have become the "success standard" amongst the hobbyist community. Most envisiontec printers do 43 XY, thats only harder than 50 microns by a factor of mathmatics. A few newer Eteks can do 21 microns.
Where the Eteks fancy german projectors give them an edge is build area.
The b9 is using a 1024X768 projector so at 50 microns your build area is 51.2 mm (2.02″) x 38.4 mm (1.52″)...If you were to DIY with a 1920X1080 96mm (3.78") X 54mm (2.1375"). While that is greater than the older generation perfactory machines....the newer ones use much higher resolution multichip DLP systems and with resolutions like 2800 x 2100 you wont find off the shelf solutions to get the same build areas....
BUT....
in a more fair fight....
Compare to Eteks entry level dlp printer the aureus does 43 micron XY in a 60mm x 45mm build area....
$2375 for a B9
vs
$48,900 for the aureus.
More than 20X the cost for 7 microns and 8.8mm X 6.6mm....of course....If you upgraded to 1920X1080 and scaled to 43 microns youd have the aureus beat with a build area of 85mm X 46mm
Its worth noting....
a
replacement bulb for a mini ddp $1049
a
liter of wic 300 $989
and a
replacement basement (replacement resin tray) $449
$2487 (a bit of supplies $112 more than the b9 printer)
Seems like if your thinking of a printer.....this project....or one of the others that will be showing up this year...is worth a hard thought.
Is it already a turnkey dental ready solution....no. In fact, I dont know of anyone dealing with dental applications yet. There are only a handful of these types of systems completed already. But the technology is quite basic. There are a number of people working on them. At this moment, The b9 kickstarter has 52 systems already spoken for....and its only been live for a week. The design and software are open source...so there will be a pretty decent size group of people doing development soon.
