The scanner is dongle controlled. it would be possible to convert the scanner with an optimet dongle if you can get your hands on one.
With the cost of scanners dropping daily it may be more practical to add an open platform scanner.

Getting an Optimet dongle with a Nobel scanner wont work. Only Optimet scanner with Optimet dongle works.

The Optimet scanner is low cost and open. Their new scanner is faster than Nobel's and scans impressions.

Optimet produces Nobel's scanners. Their 2g is the same 2g that they previously sold and a dongle from that scanner would convert a nobel scanner. That is coming from Optimet and I believe they are the highest authority on the matter. Optimet does have newer versions of the scanner that are not used by nobel.
