A name like ************* will set who ever purchases your name apart from the rest when it comes to virtual realestate.

Domain names could become one of the top investments in the world.

The internet is much bigger then it was in 2000 there will always be a need for domain names. That era was just the infant stage of the internet.
It has evolved up until present date and is much bigger and diverse. We are in a global economy and will need the internet to communicate with and sell are products.

i disagree. domain names now don't serve too much purpose for "selling our wares" or have much to do with global economies.

the internet has grown to be as corporate as the real world; a few big sites are literally shaping what you can do with the internet, and how you can profit from it, each while they suck some of your profit. one of these is google; with pennies per click from google advertising, your dot-com grows traffic, but this is a two faced coin. while you benefit with more traffic much (a LOT) of this traffic is internet bots and spiders. web crawlers that are harvesting the data from your site, generating spam for their own site, and tracking your site's growth. head down to the forum's "who's online" page and see for yourself, of the 400 users online, about 20 are real users.

the consumers of the internet go to Facebook and yahoo and Amazon; they don't buy from sites that arent big aggregated social meeting places where peer reviewed content can be trusted. when a consumer wants a product, the first thing they do is go to google.

google effectively owns and controls the internet, you'll have to pay to get your business seen. ironically its own social networking can't get off the ground.

The domain name can be a marketing tool for a return visit or print ads. Most of us do a surch and bookmark a page and never pay to much attention to the domain name. Domain names are not a big part how your potential customer find your goods and services on the Internet.

Customers are always fickle but like no one expects the Spanish Inquisition this always seems to come as a surprise to the vendor.

Land base parallels virtual base businesses in many ways. I see the traffic stats for my names, see the bots, spiders, ect. Some people do not want to go the internet way so why not run a print ad in a journal, much less complicated.

Maybe it is easy to get in the dental lab top ten listings at google or yahoo right now. When the competition increases
for the top ten spots, your competitors will hire seo specialists to get them on the first page.
Google will change there algo.s and knock everybody off the front page. It might be to your advantage to have a couple of generic domain names in your portfolio that will bring you type in traffic (direct navigation).

I've had a name registered for several years that I keep meaning to do something with, but so far all I've done is dish out a few bucks every year to re-register. Anyone interested in dentalability.com?

Best of luck. What's the over/under for what "shellie" would settle for the name?

Yours would be a great argument for using your name as the lab name, I never thought of that.

Google will give weight to keywords in the domain name. This increases the importance of selecting a good name.
Most seo sites will explain the advantages of using keyword domain names. A domain name like dentallab.biz is easier to remember. It also can be used to co-brand.
