STL Scan Repair

Hi DLN,

does anybody have any tips for cleaning up and repairing STL oral scans. We get a lot of scans from the 3M true-def scanner, and we a ton of problems with them in 3shape when doing the crowns and digital model w/ model builder. Most case we are able to get the crown designed, but the model builder part crashes or we get a weird ass error before the model can be completed. Totally frustrating !!!!
So our vendor for 3shape (Glidewell Labs) told us that they use an in house STL scan repair software before they bring in scans into 3shape, but the support guy couldn't tell me what the program was. But gave me just enough info to start asking questions. Any help would be great ! Thanks

Maybe try Meshlab. It's free.http://meshlab.sourceforge.net/

meshlab might help, but it may also smooth out areas that require higher definition so be careful.

my money is on a professional program that they have built or one they were trained to use successfuly by hand such as zbrush

but its pure speculation
