I'm sure it'll cost another $15-20k in upgrade + trade up fee from my current blue scanner. Not to mention dongle fees and service contracts. I know the scanner will scan in 5 axis mode but what is the point when inlab compact and MCXL cannot utilize benefits of 5 axis milling??? Open stl output. Hahaha. That's $2.5k more right there if they continue with their current business model. Maybe 4 years ago this would have been a viable competitor to other scanners on the market but as of current I'll stick with acquiring a medit scanner with exocad.

I friend asked me about it . I am suspicious too . I didn't even bother to spend any time at Sirona's IDS booth , that's why I don't know anything about it . They are advertising open STL though . Who knows , maybe they decided to go with the rest of the companies . The 5 axis though is for the scanning proces I believe , nothing to do with 5 axis milling .

Not a lot of info yet, supposed to be 12 micron accuracy and scan a full arch in 15 seconds, time will tell.

Inlab 4.0 definitely exports stl, no dongle now needed. When our 3Shape is bogged downed with a chunk of scanning we now use the ineos blue to scan an import files into dental system at the same time. Fits of FCZR from these files seem fine...go figure...

We have done this as well with lava 7 but it is scan files only. They charge for restoration and connect file open export.

Is marketing BS in my opinion as well. 5 axis would only make sense for a single laser pointer type of scanning like the old Cercon did in 2.5, not a projected grid...

Takes a pretty bright light to cut through the sirona smoke but I believe the advantage would be more angles = less data holes = better scan. Hope they have done it but tend to doubt them as well.

for a small sized lab this will be more than fine. There's a new mill coming out too.

Could somebody point out where the 5 axis are, I could only see 3...

1. x position
2. y position
3. z position
4. rotation about x axis
5. rotation about y axis

(4 and 5 could be xy, xz or yz, i just chose to label them x and y... More generally, rotation about 2 out of 3 axes).

In this case more likely rotation about x axis, rotation about y axis and rotation about z axis. Unless there is something hidden in the top part...

Definitely would look cool simultaneously moving as it scans... 3rd axis is either there for the cool factor ( as a selling point ) or to tuck the scan table away for manual modes, since 2 axis movement is plenty enough for the camera to see every detail.

I'm sorry for resurrecting old topic, but some time passed, maybe there are new opinions about InEos X5? Is it a good competitor to 3Shape D900?
