So a while back I was in CA running the 340I.
I finished half a million margins under a Mantis.
It was a helluva piece of equiptment.

Today the boss inquired about getting an additional microscope.

So I emailed him a link to a youtube of the Mantis Elite.

Then printed a brochure and placed it on his desk in his office.

Now we cross our fingers.

Pricey, but very practical for a dental lab and just a beautiful piece of hardware.

Well see how it goes over tomorrow.

He likes nice things. It is likely well get one. I want all us techs to use it. But keep it clean. I don't need to trim margins under it...
So I am thinking of getting a nice clean workbench and another hand piece. And set up a clean bench that we all share and is just used for finishing margins, all margins, Zirc, Metal, Emax, etc...

I have a nice scope for dies. I just wouldn't trim dies under it cause I want to keep it in the porcelain room where they grind their porcelain. To close to their porcelain stacking benches for that much dust.
The mantis has many lenses to be fitted. The older model I worked with had two on a dial. So I'm guessing you order 2 that you would use most...
I told him I would like to set up a finish bench to keep clean and for margins only. He likes the idea. So maybe we will get a Mantis Elite w/cam, another Presto Aqua II, and another hand piece...
In this way we can take the integrity of the margins in this lab up a notch and look good/feel good doing it.
We have a couple stereo scopes we use and fight over cause we all need one. This way we rid the downtime of waiting for a microscope to use.

Absolutely. This ideal for record keeping as well.

Hope you get it, we have two of them one like you use to work with, with the two lenses and the newer version. I use it for model trimming margins and seating all our Zr and emax! Great bit of kit...

Just a word of caution - I did the annotated photo routine for a couple of accounts a few years back. In one instance, it completely backfired. This particular account preferred to keep his head in the sand with regards to the quality of his preps/impressions. Providing him visual evidence of his ineptitude (Not how it was phrased in my communications with him) mad him angry. Two cases sent back to him for new impression on consecutive days - with pictures - and he bolted after working together for 11 years, and he wouldn't even take a phone call from me. And, honestly - there was no hint of dissatisfaction with our work prior to this episode.

I think I would call your doctors and ask each one if seeing a magnified picture of their dies/impressions would be useful to them, and only do so for the ones responding affirmatively.

I agree. I've been there. Every one is happy till you question their work. Then they are offended no matter how far you try to stray around the bush and even sugar coat it all. They did leave for a while, but... In the end, they came back...
