If you do ringless....If you buy 1/4 inch galvanized STEEL hardware cloth in about 4 inch rolls (for gutters) and overlap it in any amount in the casting refrac mold you will never have a blowout from a cracked model(don't wire it together-just overlap) . The hot molds still get micro cracks of course, but not big enough to channel metal. Also they can stay in a hot oven forever. I thought of this 4 years ago - no miscasts in 4 years (except that time I shorted metal...)
Cut wire with tin snips (compound best)
...Don't accidentally get the aluminum hardware cloth! Too low temp! 1/4 inch min hole size for investmet to go through it. If you are paranoid you can also pry the hardware cloth away from the sides of the former a bit in a few places before you pour it. Never wire the ends together! No need!
Also, does not interfere with clippers divesting if you start at the overlap. Just unzips into about 3 chunks that hold together.
I overlap on the distal side just to always know where the overlap is.
