I am looking to see how everyone calculates their alloy price for billing. You have the alloy weight of the crown/Bridge, you are ready to wright it up. Does your lab billing software calculate the price per penny weight for your? Do you divide it up yourself and have it on a sheet or in a separate program? What do you use, and do you like it?

Our software (LabNet) does it. We simply enter our desired per ounce (or per gram) price and enter the dwt for each case. We only do this for full cast restorations--we apply a reasonable average and do a set price for pfms. Our docs like the pricing predictability.

As far as marking it up goes, we either do a fixed percentage or a fixed amount above cost to account for waste and loss. How we do it depends on whether its a $700 ounce cost of full case or $1200 ounce cost of high noble. We simply make sure we're covering our costs and not taking it in the shorts.

All lab software should be calculating your alloy price and adding it to your invoice once you enter the weight. Which system are you using if any?
