What are you charging for models now a days?

Our lab recently had to send out for some models due to a specific implant system we don't work with. The lab in question is very reputable in the area but i was flabbergasted when the invoice came through for the models. We were charged 225 total for models, printed tissue, and analog, and quite frankly weren't too impressed with the quality. The tissue model alone was 85 dollars (the analog cost less than the one arch -_-) I don't want to name the lab in question as they do good work on restorations and I'm not gonna hate a business for trying to make money.

So it kind of started a conversation in our lab about model pricing. We pride ourselves on our model work and we are a little more pricey for that as a result, but still far below what this lab was charging, we charge roughly 60 dollars for all the model work needed for each case. And having seen some comments recently in resin threads about keeping model costs low I am interested in hearing from others what they value their model work at, and maybe start a conversation about it as there is much talk of lowering prices to keep drs within the industry.

that....is a LOT for just printed models with tissue and an analog.
happy to print you a comparable model for your review, including soft tissue. our costs are significantly less lol.

Lol yes it is haha, it was more just a rush in the moment kind of thing. We had a case with an implant system we never use, and ordering the analogs and everything would have took too much time so we sent it off. What shocked us as well was that they were printed on a Carbon and the layer lines are crazy on it. Really just started a convo in our lab about model quality and pricing and everything so was curious what others thought.

I can't talk about the quality you receive, but the cost depends a lot on the analogs!

Paltop or Ditron, for example, are quite expensive. When I buy them, I charge the client $95 per analog! And then I charge for printing the model and soft tissue. In your case, let's say two analogs, printed models plus soft tissue, we are very close to the number you were charged.

And I don't have to pay thousands to Carbon for using their printer...

thats insane. we dont see many paltop or ditron here so i cannot recall the prices but the cost of printing a model isnt THAT high...at least not for us. making me rethink how much we charge haha

You were charged competitor price it seems... I'd treat it like a loss leader and move on
Very possible, not something we do often so not really worried about it. They are a pretty well known (at least in our area) national boutique style lab so they charge more in general but the quality compared with the price was really the jaw dropper.

Kind of why I posted this thread haha, I figured it might not be quite as ridiculous as it seems compared to the cost of printed models. But already considering our labs costs seemed on the higher side it was interesting to see such a difference between ours and theirs.

next time you need a model printed, let me know haha.
i would love an honest feedback on our vs a national boutique style lab!

It's not the price of the model, what costs is the implant parts and knowledge to make a implant model imo. I charge similar, but I don't specially charge for the model, I'm a one line item fellar...one price for all.

It is often not the quality but the sales power and creating the perception of value added products/services to their clients Deal

The thing is, if you have to order one or two, between shipping and taxes, my costs are around $65-70. I then up-charge 20-30%.

My printed model fees are based on what I was charged by Argen, Straumann (when dealing with straumann implants) and so on.

It does have me wondering if we should charge more for implant model work. As it is at the moment we don't, but the rate we pump out normal models balances it out plenty enough. We typically do 1 line item as well, their invoice just had it broken out. Analog was 72, tissue model was 87 with the printed soft resin tissue, and the opposing was 49 with about 20 bucks shipping. It is interesting to hear from some of you that you charge similar for the implant models though.

They certainly charge more for their models than we do. But I charge the soft tissue per implant site.

With that said, their model fees are high. But I guess that comes with the carbon printer territory, somehow they have to pay that lease.
