Hey everybody,

I am (a novice) designing a fixed bar for a removable denture for a denturist. I am waiting for her to call back to answer this question, but, do I impinge the tissue to create more space if needed? or should I leave a space of 1mm above tissue regardless? What are your default "settings"?

What's the deal?

Thanks

Screw-retained denture or removable with attachments of some kind?

*cough* Nobel *cough* I use it for abutments/bars. I rock the 3Shape for C&B...I know I know, don't ask. It was a strategic decision.

Locators. I just wasn't sure what the hygiene protocol is for this. Do you need room for some brush?

Depending on who you ask you may get a different answer. Really is a preference thing. I usually ask the clinician.

As Nicole already wrote. Just ensure you do not create a concavity on the bar at the tissue side. Create at least some space to thread super floss between the bar and tissue. This is usually done on the mesial and distal of each abutment.

I have always heard at least 1mm from the tissue to keep it clean. And always convex.
