If you never looked at the long term effects of handling monomer, you better read this.

Short version:
It is easily absorbed by your skin
It can cause:

Peripheral Neruopathy (can't feel with your fingers and nerve pain)
Nerve damage generally (mylein sheath disorders(that's the insulator on the 'conductor' of your nerves))
A few other things like we'd expect Liver, Kidney damage. Nose/mouth/lung issues.

(promoted to article, just for giggles.) (also because it would be the sort of thing we should keep pushing)

If I can't put monomer on my hands then I can't do this.

Just make sure to wear gloves that are made to endure monomers. Most gloves just let monomer through and the result is worse than doing it without gloves because the glove absorbs all monomer.

I have yet to find gloves that can handle monomers, if you find some, please post!

You should wear rubber gloves when handling an armadillo as well.

Just remember, your liver has to filter everything that enters your body. Whether you eat, drink,or breathe it, you're giving your liver workout.

Can you point out good brands, what gloves do you use? I used to use Ansell TNT Touch'n'Tuff gloves but now they don't promise to hold up against monomer liquides either...

Those would not suit my working methods. Way too clumsy to work with.

I use silicone brushes like this, just dip the tip to monomer.

But if someone can link nitrile gloves that really can handle monomer, I'd appreciate it.

I can't get the link to post because of the name of the online store.

^^^ The picture is just a generic product. I buy these from a local market here.

I'm sure you can find them online "silicone tip brush art" or at a local store.

That research is from 1998. I would say it is outdated. If you look at current Ansell product sheets for example, they state that methyl methacrylate penetrates their gloves in either seconds or minutes.

I have not yet found a nitrile glove that promises to held up against methyl methacrylate. If someone does, please post.
