Thoughts on overseas outsourcing?

A big portion of our big US brands use zirconia from china. China processes about 90% of all the worlds dental zirconia including a lot of initial processing of Toshoh powder as well. Some US brands just buy the powder to the spec they want and press their own discs, and some just flat out relabel and resell. Like it or not thats just the way it is. How do I know this you ask? I some background in import/export and looked up the shipments.
Tough to get Chinese zirconium these days...makes folks like Argen, Ivoclar, and others that make their own discs set up pretty good. I guess till the Toshoh powder runs out I suppose.

Probably not to tough honestly. I think it might actually fall under the baseline tariff only and not the highest rate, abut i'm not sure about it have not had time to look

My zirconia material per crown averages $7/unit.
Milling tool usage, stain, electricity, crown box and bag, cheapest design service, stone or printer resin, invoice paper, articulator, delivery costs (gas, car insurance or ups shipping)…$15-$25/unit maybe? $30-35?
All lab equipment is free = $0
Labor for front office, deliveries, models, milling and printing techs, finishing techs, is worthless. Why pay for labor? $0
Experience (aka wisdom) and knowledge is obviously worthless. $0
So I think that lab is charging correctly.

Just curious, since Glidewell has their own branded Zirconia ,where is it manufactured. I half expect him to have his own facility to produce it. If that's how it is, it would be an option for labs that want to buy American made. Okay, release the bashing of him now. :)

Argen already does this..I actually like Argens Zirconia myself. The more I navigate the way through manufacturers, milling centers, tarriffs, selling direct to my clients, all my roads lead to Argen currently because they have an answer for it that is conducive to my business model. They've been aggressive in price matching as well.

I use some Argens zircona too. I like it as well. They import their raw powder then manufacture their own discs ( a lot of them). Nice looking stuff and great strength.

thats why i like zirkonzahn its all made in the north of italy they hate strangers and dont trust anything from anywhere else italian armish

I toured Glidewell several years ago. While on tour they showed where the Bruxzir is being made onsite. Told us we could not take pictures of the production process.

zz were happy to show me their factory i didnt even think to take pictures

Why can't I buy them? There are still many new brands of zirconia in China these years. I'm a related industry professional. If you need it, I can ask around for you.

i think its also the fact that the average wage for techo in China is 800 -1500 usd a month for a 70 hour week
There aren't any with more than 800 US dollars. Unless you have at least three years of experience, students who have just graduated from school would only pay around 200 US dollars per month.
