The idea was good, but even better when I bought some thin, low temp sticks. Melts easily, doesn't cause as much stringing and comes off easily. This also helps in not having to worry about the scan plate snapping onto the scanner base and breaking the sticky wax when doing the bite scan. No electric cord and gun to get in the way, or forgetting to unplug it, let alone waiting for it to heat up.
Same here, to much chance of movement especially for quad cases when placing it back in the putty in causing the casts to move buccally or lingually from each other when seating with uneven band tension, or just in general with the bands not being as stable.
