I never rubber band, Renfert Geo stickywax. Specially on quads could alter the bite, full arches with posterior stops on both sides should be fine i still don't run the risk.

If you don't want to wait for a glue gun to preheat or leave it on all day just use clear glue stick and torch.

Changed your idea to a Winner.

The idea was good, but even better when I bought some thin, low temp sticks. Melts easily, doesn't cause as much stringing
and comes off easily. This also helps in not having to worry about the scan plate snapping onto the scanner base and breaking the
sticky wax when doing the bite scan. No electric cord and gun to get in the way, or forgetting to unplug it, let alone waiting for it to heat up.

I never rubber band,

Same here, to much chance of movement especially for quad cases when placing it back in the putty in causing the casts to move buccally or lingually
from each other when seating with uneven band tension, or just in general with the bands not being as stable.
