While doing a immediate RPD for someone till they could get back to their home country for definitive treatment I started wondering about differences in phonetics.
Most of us will never or rarely need to know about a non-Romance or non-Germanic languages needs. But how would you ever find out?
Any books on the subject of other language families will likely only be available in those languages. Or handwritten notes in someone's long forgotten stash from their grandfather who made dentures before and after moving from 'the old country'.
This is not a issue with any frequency in my sticks and hills, but in large cities I expect it could be quite a useful skill to be able to adapt to a Mandarin or Urdu speaker's needs.
