I went to a dentist, who was midrange for premium custom dentures, full set. She charged 3000 bucks upfront. Two months later, she called me in for a final wax try in. But when i got there, instead of the final wax try in and final fit.....she produced the weirdest set of billybob teeth i have ever seen. They are as smooth and see thru as if they were made of very very thin reline material. The teeth are so flush with the shiny glassy gum plate, that its as if they are two dimensional. They do not fit. The bite is off nearly half an inch. The bottom jaw must jut out past the upper jaw in order to make them fit. The premium quality natural looking teeth i paid for, were replaced with teeny tiny chalky whitish flat toned teeth. Neither gum nor tooth placement is custom or sculpted or natural. They are identical in appearance to the billybob teeth by imako, sold on amazon over halloween. I have not been able to wear them. I think she made them herself in some cold pour process, and she is very very unskilled.

I have worn full dentures for 18 years now, and always had mid level quality, which was good, but i wanted premium teeth this time. I wanna be an old rock star. Instead, i have this hideous set of god only knows what, i cant wear them, she has refused to refund unless i sign a paper that does not list the dollar amount, and calls the unspecified refund amount as a "settlement and release" instead of a refund and return of product, and also has a silence clause that also states i will not be allowed to pursue any refund claim activity in any court, if i sign that paper. I told her, in writing, i would sign if it used "refund and return of product" in place of the "settlement and release" clause, include the exact dollar amount, and i would not agree to a silence clause. So, no refund, and last week, she had a lawyer call me dozens of times, from friday evening through the following wednesday, and she had him email me five times. Each message was demanding i put him in touch with any lawyer i might be considering to hire, and he demanded that i must talk to him so he could explain why it was most beneficial to me, if i sign the dentists silence clause. I told the dentist i would be forced to file a small claims case for the refund, if she would not agree to a modified refund form. I offered to allow her a silence clause that stated i would not take my experience with her to any news media. She will not budge.

I think she cold poured these herself, in her office. Or worse. I agreed once, to go to her "lab" where i was supposed to shell another three hundred dollars to get the hideous new set's bite "adjusted". The "lab" she sent me to, to "fix" the hideous teeth, turned out to be the living room of someones very unsavory and very unclean upstairs apt., in one of the least preferred neighborhoods in this city. I left, without even stepping all the way into that apartment door and i tottered dangerously fast, down the stairs (no elevator),all while i was yelling on my phone for my cab to get the heck back there, and fast. There was a blatant and leisurely drug deal going on less than 50 feet from where i stood as i stared at my approaching cab. Poor cabbie.

There is no way these dentures she produced were ever going to become premium heat cured dentures. I think she made them herself, and she appeared to try to make them look similar to temporary dentures. Except my temp dentures in 1999 looked actually pretty decent, and were way better than this set dr. Ram is trying to force me to eat. This hideous set she made wouldnt even hold up to food, if i had even been able to bite with them. They are really that thin. The teeth are the size of a childs. I do not have an especially small adult face.

I wore them for ten minutes, in the office, while she shrieked that they were a new style of the most premium of all premium dentures. And she shrieked that i was very lucky to get them for only $3000. But, i was ripped off. Badly. I cannot speak in them. I cannot close my mouth. I cannot smile. I cannot eat. So, i repaired my old broken midrange economy set, in september, and again now, every two or three weeks, and am suffering with these while i figure out how to file a small claims. I guess i need expert opinions, photos, comparisons, heck, i dont know.

dr. Ram had also refused to repair my old ones, in july, so i glue them myself, often, since july....with drugstore denture temporary repair kits......they had snapped in half, which was why i went to this new doctor, in the first doggone place. the lower plate now keeps me in constant gum sores, and yet it is still better than trying to wear the new set that dentist made.

I had temps when i first had teeth and jaw parts removed, 18 years ago. I know what temps look like. This set this dentist made in september, looks even more temp than my temps did. I have had mid range economy heat cured dentures ever since then, and they only cost $700 dollars all those years ago.....and this dentist told me that premium dentures are not supposed to be sculpted ....as if i was too stupid to know what premium are supposed to look like. I gaped at her, and said, exasperated ....ummmm.....google? Google it, dr. Ram. Google it. She started yelling, that i am not used to wearing dentures (i have worn full dentures for 18 years ...i am suddenly new at it?) and that i needed to expect it to take several months before i would be able to "find my new bite". I stormed out, in one big state of blood pressure. I cant go to another dentist and get a proper set made, until i get my money back. I cant afford to pay another $3000 or so, to another dentist, while i have a similar sum rolling around out there for a thirty dollar set of unfitted and hideous teeth.

So, long story longer......yes, some of you are getting ripped off by the dentists. And some dentists are going even farther and charging a fortune and making sloppy cold pours with billybob type teeth, in office, and then blaming all the labs.

Does anyone know where i might get reliable pictures and descriptions of average premium custom molded dentures, and midrange and economy and of course, temporary dentures? Other than the incomplete half set photos on google, i mean? I think i need to have that as well as the set she actually made, when i go to small claims?

i never in all my years had to ever file a claim. I have never had a problem with dentists or labs, and i had four kids, all of whom had been through braces, and some with caps. If we hadnt moved, i would have used my old dentist. But this dentist in our new town was advertised as being a denturist specialist. Boy is she ever.

So....enjoy the story, at least it takes the onus off of labs and technicians. This doctor is probably one who has a reputation among labs...i am just guessing.....

And, if any soul has a kernel of advice to lend me, i will be eternally grateful.

Much love, and dont let bad dentists drag you around.

Make sure you save your receipts, document dates and times you went to dentists and what was discussed... Next find a reputable prosthodontist in your area and have him/her give you an opinion on the denture. If they say it's garbage go to the dental board in your area and file a complaint and tell them you want your money back. Be prepared to give the denture back when you get the refund. If you like the prosthodontist you went to have them make you a new denture.

Great post Flip.
Ms. Anders, can you post some pictures of the dentures? I'd love to see what they look like.
....kind of like driving by an accident and not being able to stop yourself from looking.

I like the fact that this person seems to know WAY more denture fabrication terminology than the average denture patient.

I will do this. Rather nervous about cold calling on anyone new, but i am sort of between a rock and a bed of daggers. So i will give it a go.

Ohmg! Thats too funny! Actually, i think i will do that. But not of them in my mouth. That was frightening. I looked like a salmon fish the way the lower jaw ended up past my upper teeth just to close my mouth. I never saw anything so crazy....

Two reasons i know.
A. I GOOGLED EVERYTHING I COULD FIND. duh. Why more people dont take advantage of technology, i just dont know.

B. my grandparents were artisans and jewelers and sculptors and painters. I spent my formative youth not at their knee soaking in wisdom....i stood at their side by the rock grinders, the bandsaws, and soaking in the sweat of being the unhappy assignee to watch the timer of the kiln they used in their lost wax casted gold art jewelry. I learned how those things were done, by watching. When i read that premium teeth were heat cured and molded in a lost wax cast method, well.... :). ..... I knew right away what was wrong with this set!

If you goggled you must know we are not in a position to give anything but moral support to your plight. Hope you find an answer to your problem.

Can anyone join this forum? I'm a member so that answer must be yes.

Speak to your attorney.
Attorneys do not "do" small claims for this kind of thing, but i did speak to all who didnt run the other way when i asked for free consult. :). They were helpful. They each spoke the words "small claims court". That was all. The only attorney who had tons of time, was the dentists attorneys messages and emails telling me i had to sign that dentists silence form, whether i wanted a refund or not. Which, i didnt think was cool.

I will try to get pics this weekend, have to charge the camera. Its dead.

Attorneys will do anything if you pay them what they want to do it.

Please show us the wording of the silence form you signed.

Sounds like the sign on the back of the gravel truck. Stay back 200 ft. we are not responsible for damage.

Is it possible to get a mistress to sign one? Get a SUYF (shut up you face) clause so to speak but it must be signed on the back of another table dancer for it to legal.

Pennsylvania. I definitely would not be surprised to hear others had the same problem with her. I googled her license, amd there are no complaints on file. But i cant imagine that i was the one and only random customer who received this type of dental hardware.

he is the rockstar you're looking for. *force wave*

Take it to the dental peer review in your area.
