This is the "King of the Hill", as far as scanners are concerned.
The fully open Steinbichler Comet Xs (AKA Scan ST)
<5um accuracy, as proven by German testing.
Comes with 64-bit scanning software.

Scanners are around $30k and add $5k for exocad. (Computer not included at that price)
We are now resellers, as well as the Medit brand.
The Steinbichler is recommended for Bars and BIG bridges and such.
It is the ultimate in accuracy for 2013. Over 100lbs.

Scanner is now up in the air, somewhere between Germany and Richmond, Va.

Nice! Is that the same one that was called something like the D station, or something?

Of course, with new intraoral scanner as well!

Look for it!

Never called a "D-station".

Not that I know of???

What is that?

That thing is just ridiculous?

I'd have to build another building just for that monstrosity. I am sure it's great but to big for me, I'll stick with my 3Shape.

If you want to make some bars that fit worth a crap.....

It costs. Money and desktop space I guess?

I want a system that would pass FDA and independent testing.

This is it. 3Shape is not good enough for bars.

This is not my words, but rather from the "experts".

But open!

It has different specs Jeff, and different software.

It is integrated with exocad/exoscan now if you prefer.

I know your friends have been asking me in private about this for a very good reason!

You have no idea how this could change some things. :p

Cheers!

I know we have a difference of opinion of 3Shape vs. Exocad - however, if this thing is "open" can it be used with 3Shape CAD?

Breuckmann < Steinbichler

Breuckmann has always been #2 to Steinbichler.

I have owned their products before.

They made the KaVo scanners, and some others.

I don't know who your experts are but, the bars we have done on our 3shape fit great no problems what so ever.

3Shape must be good enough if Nobel is going to open up to them and accept bars and abutments no?

Actually Tyler, this comes from the guy who started the Nobel bar stuff...LOL

Bernard @ Panthera. Go ask him.

Want his phone number? He is/was the expert at Nobel!

Many other experts say the same thing.

If you need more references, then just ask!

huh? There is no other non-contact scanner better Paul. This scanner has proven accuracy according to VDI 2634/2 to <5um.

It is the best. Nothing else is even close. The breuckmann is 3x worse @ 15um. 3Shape is 5x worse or greater.

This is the only standard testing to measure scanners of this type.... The State of 3-D Imaging Standards | Quality Digest

I'd be very interested to find out the actual accuracy of some of the other scanners on the market, but I think they are too scared to see the truth about how accurate they really are.

No need to argure with me. The data is there for all to see.

Bernard is a very bright guy. I'm not sure how he came to this conclusion. But, I can tell you from experience that 3Shape is definitely accurate enough to produce great fitting bars.
