Dentallabcoach, I know Al is on a weekly work setup vs your daily.

How are you building and finishing 6 crowns in one hour?

What does your work look like?

Hi Travis, speed is my biggest matter so if I am not making a mistake, Dentalladcoach wrote that he build-ups to finishes 6 PFM in a day and is not in an hour.

Hi Travis,
I build 6 in 1.5 hours and finish 6 in one hour. I know a friend who produces in a schedule like Al does. Monday, Models and dies. Tuesday, wax and cast, Wednesday etc., progressively through Friday. I guess it's about the same thing.
I just never liked doing one thing all day long.
Not doubting Al's ability.
Here's a link to a few photo pics, MySpace - james - 58 - Male - - myspace.com/dentallabcoach
:rolleyes::rolleyes:

They should be on the slide show to the right. I can see them from my computer. If you can't let me know and I'll contact them.
Thanks
I looked for the pics of your buildups but they were not there!!!

This thread has opened my eyes. I work on a day to day basis, averaging 10 PFM units, die trimming to glaze and polish. I then go home to do my invoicing ready for delivery the following day....thats a 15 hr day for me.

I have tried to teach my delivery driver( I do daily collection and deliveries) how to do models but she has the manual dexterity of a brick layer:rolleyes:.
I am currently advertising for an apprentice, once that position is filled I think I will give Al's method a try. Im sure having someone doing the models on a daily baiss instead of trying to fit that into my day will be of great help implementing a new system.

Thanks to you guys I have my been enquiring about the E.max Press to go with the E.Max Ceram I already have. Who said the internet was only useful for porn:D

I know its been mentioned...Where are the pictures:p

Justin I have the tropicana tray. Ive had it for about 3 yrs now before that I had other brands they were smaller and had a sponge in the bottom.
I dont have any problems in the winter but during the summer you need to put the ceramic tray in a cold burnout furnace and run it up to about 1500 F and shut the furnace off and mabey crack the door. But let it cool till you can touch it. There are instructions that come with it. I do it about once every 2 months + -.
I use build up liquid to help hold the shape of the porc.
If you find a good brush let me know. Ive been using the Renfart brushes but they dont hold their tip well and after the tip is gone they dont hold a flat shape well to contour. If I used them for my entire buildups I dont think they would last 2 weeks.

Heres my spatulas the ends are thin and a bit flexable. Im looking to order some new ones, let me know what you find. They were both as wide at the tip as they are at the base when they were new. I got about 10 yrs out of that worn one. I never realized how worn it was till I order a new one.

I use a smile design #8 small (there is a large, or maybe it's long?). Anyway, each day I use straight hair conditioner, the kind your wife uses after shampoo, and work it into the brush, flick it to a sharp point, then put it back in the plastic tube the brush came in. The stuff comes out of the brush when you wet it before using, and causes no problems with the porcelain at all. My brushes last months, though I only do seven or eight crowns/day with them. The smile design brushes are the best ones I've found.
What I can't find, though, is a really good whipping brush. I had an old Vita whip, but when it wore out, I couldn't find an equal. Any suggestions?

You may be able to find something you like in the cosmetic section at Target or in the art section Hobby Lobby. Hope this helps, and good luck.
BTW you can expect the wierd looks at Target as you check out the whipping properties against your skin.

Video of a buildup

This is sort of my buildup, but for purposes of the video I applied the porcelain in a slightly different fashion so it would look cooler as it progressed. It was just a fun experiment as I am trying to put together some content for my website and blog, here it is.

Actually it is Noritake EX-3 the sequence is as follows paste opaque, OBA2 along margin, A2 Body build, OB orange along occlusal, A2 Body on occlusal, then LT1 Luster, 1st bake, Adjustments for 2nd bake with LT1 Luster, Stain and Glaze. Oh, yeah the normal E2 enamel porcelain powder is blue, but the Luster porcelain does actually look much better and it is white.
