That song "Why Me" was actually written by Kris Kristofferson who had basically burnt the candle at both ends during the 60's. He also wrote this one which Janis Joplin had a hit with...

This guy had a fantastic voice and an interesting bio. A congenital disorder left him almost completely blind from birth. Abandoned by his mother as an infant, he was raised in poverty by his grandparents in the Smoky Mountains until the age of five, when he was sent to the Governor Morehead School for the blind. Lot's of grandparents today raising their grandkids.
