I get the feeling it hasn't even got off the ground. unless they are going to market harder in future it seems like the negative feedback have already killed it.

i can't help but think Misuse is the underlying contributor to its failure; and the reason monolithics as a whole are still treated as sub-par, poor aesthetic crowns.

when you do it RIGHT, these things can barely be differentiated in the mouth. but all the work labs put into making great products get tossed out the window when doctors decide to "finish" your mona lisa.

that right there, thats where Lava Ultimate and Monolithic Zirconia both fall down. at the dentist who doesnt know what not to do and winds up pissing on your hard work.

It's a glorified temporary. Throw them away.

Why do you feel its a glorified temporary ?
I think they look really nice for posteriors and the margins on them are far superior to that from other products,
I find that they are good alternative and have there place
and why/ what is all the bad feedback ? I have not heard any besides people judging a product before they have had the chance tosee what it can do for them.
:D

I agree with chocybunny. Lava Ultimate was just classified as a ceramic by the ADA as of 2013 so can be submitted to insurance as such. It is incredibly easy to produce in the lab which = better profit margin. Lava Ultimate is user friendly for the dentist: easy to adjust, repair, polish, etc. It definitely has its place.

Doesn't need glaze, takes about 15 seconds to polish to an incredible high shine. Can use Ceramage stains if want some characterization. Can also use to cut back and layer if want but that defeats purpose of monolithic. I have worked with just about every reincarnation of indirect composite over the last 20 years and this is by far the nicest.

"Doesn't need glaze, takes about 15 seconds to polish to an incredible high shine."

so it looks like a temp then.

How do you use a composite as a bulk enamel replacement (ie full crowns) what is the elastic modulus of lava ultimate?

As far as i understand people are getting failures because it is flexing and causing the cement to fail.

This stuff is its own worst enemy, Its too good at doing what it was designed to do reproduce the shock absorbent qualities of the periodontal ligament, I know it looks crap because its a mono crown, but it wont be long before a Vita type TriLuxe block comes out from lava, they have invested too much cash for it to fail. And if you can mill a hex on it you will be hailed as a God

For bonding problems, could it be placed on zirc coping since that cements well? Maybe the ultimate will bond better to zirc? From reps I hear the debond is due to improper bonding technique. Always the user

Yes we mill it and have not had any issues with failures. The material has to be bonded not cemented. And as I said in my original post...it has a place just like everyother material we use in our labs. Use it wisely and in the right situation and it is a viable solution for certain patients.

Paulg This material has 80 percent zirc,so you must know how easy it is to polish.

Material doesnt need enamel due to different block configurations (IE) high or low translucent.

Ive done about 300 since launch and so far 2 debonded due to Dr not folowing strict cementation guide.

All in al my Drs like them alot and is a better look than my best Lava plus.
