Geomagic had software for measuring digital files accurately, they got bought by 3dsystems, so I would say that technology is probably already in most of the software we use. You would have to scan IO, then scan your printed model, I know Ive seen some of those studies or pics floating around somewhere. No one wants to admit its not a 1:1 replication, because digital.
