General dentist looking for advice on in office milling. Mainly composite crowns/onlays and perhaps zirconium crowns further on.
What about the Versamill 5X300D? Other suggestions?
Thank you :)

Will you be hiring a technician to operate or will you be the technician?

I’ll be the technician, at least for now.
definitely spring for the extras offered by Axsys then, because they offer a crash course in CNC technology - this will help you become more knowledgeable in the industry as a whole, and with the experience of working with axsys you will be able to troubleshoot your own system over time.

too many people think these systems have intelligence, like you just press the calculate button and start milling.

that's just not how anything is designed to work. you can't do that with design, you have to specify the special geometries, you have to do the alignment and setup, you have to throw your smarts at the design or you would not have good prosthetics. same with milling. you have to tell the cam program the same thing you told the cad program - this is the special geometry, this is the angle, these are the tools, this is the material... without this specificity the system can't do its job.

the crash course offered by axsys will help you understand why some milling takes longer than others for example titanium and crco. call or email Al Morad, their sales lead. [email protected]

To add to what CoolHandLuke said, you really need a wet mill even though the Versamill5X300D will fill your immediate needs perfectly, and its a great trouble free Dry mill. Your greatly limiting yourself with a dry mill.
Check out the Versamill 5X400 wet/dry mill that mills everything/ emax, hybrids/ composites ,Vita's Suprintity, Enamic, zirconia wet or dry, metal, and any other material you will eventually mill as you grow into digital lab dentistry.

Thanks a lot for the replies 🙏🏻
Looks like the Versamill is a good choice, I’ll look into the wet milling.
