Yeah, save save save,..then the millennials will vote in socialism and, voila--you evil hoarders get a Cyprus-style haircut, your racist 401k goes to buy dachas for the politburo, your IRA and safe deposit goodies go to pay for someone else's college, housing, food, guaranteed income, health care, cell service, utilities, weed.,. Next thing you know you're on the Maduro diet and Sean Penn will be calling it an economic miracle that the beloved State gives you a paper plate of free beans every other day..
I think we're safe until you can vote with an app.

Paranoid much? We'll all be starving from mass crop failure, with a couple of global pandemics long before that comes down the pike.

The middle of China will be uninhabitable in 20 years.
You'll be able to cross the Pacific on foot walking over all the plastic.

You're worried about your 401k? LOL

It took over 100,000 years of known human existence to reach 1 billion in population.
It only too 100 years for us to double that.
50 years more to double it again.
In the last 25 years we've again doubled our population to our now, nearly 8 Billion people.
Over the next decade and a half, if something drastic doesnt change our trajectory, we will double our numbers again.
Farm land is being lost to urban expansion. We are burning our crops as fuel, and yet the leading cause of death on our pretty blue planet is starvation.

Now is officially the time to panic.

No, no you are all wrong, we are living in a computer simulation so says some of the top minds today... That and I like chili beans so I'll be good with that :)

More like a hologram is one of the latest views. https://www.nature.com/news/simulations-back-up-theory-that-universe-is-a-hologram-1.14328#/b1

Which when you realize there is not one reason according to any laws of physics we think we know that there is just one electron in the entire universe moving around to so fast that it can interact with *itself* at each location we 'assign' it by our models it starts getting a bit weird at the quantum level. The virtual particle flux is proposed by one I'd read recently (and can't remember! GRRR!) to be the holographic matrix which is 'excited' by an unknown method to produce our 'reality' as a piece of plastic is excited by a laser to produce a standard one color hologram.

But a hologram makes very good sense to my worldview. We 'fell' out of purity into this 'lower' version.

An interesting movie if you missed it: The 13th Floor. Released about the same time as the Matrix but was less ... sensational(?)

My teenage son had to explain the Matrix theory to me, that the computer simulation would be fueled by particles in the Matrix. I have to admit it opens up lots of possibilities and I consider myself a religious person. Very interesting. I think the hologram fits into this model. I haven't seen the movies but if it isn't too scary I'll check it out.

Not scary in any scary movie sense. Good story to it.
The original idea for The Matrix was they would be using our brain computational power, not our body heat to create power, but that was seen as too hard to explain to an audience so they broke the laws of thermodynamics instead.

“For the scientist who has lived by his faith in the power of reason, the story ends like a bad dream. He has scaled the mountains of ignorance, he is about to conquer the highest peak; as he pulls himself over the final rock, he is greeted by a band of theologians who have been sitting there for centuries.”
