Hello DLN,

We have a patient asking about their veneers being too yellow 5 years after the restoration was done.
We suspect the surrounding teeth might have been bleached, but to your knowledge, are there other possible causes for yellowing of veneers?
For instance, are some cement types known to turn yellow over time, or is e.max prone to becoming stained by food and drinks for example?

Just looking at possible avenues to troubleshoot.
Thanks

She probably just bleached her teeth...however, 5 years is a good time to replace. Also, most folks transfer from the A and B shades when they are younger to the C and D shades as they get older, maybe she's made the transition? Microleakage, usually seen around edges of the veneers first. Never heard of any of the new cements (but what the Doc used most likely was charted, ask) breaking down like that. Ferric Sulfate, or some type of Hemodent, usually makes a grey or dark color, not yelllow. Not sure of any other ideas.

I've heard that resin luting agents for veneers should be hema free or else yellowing can occur. This was curtosy of Dr. Nassir Bargi, Really knows his stuff on bonding.
