Hello Daniel,
as far as I know, the competition in California is quite fierce. Labs outsource their design services to design companies in Shenzhen due to their quick turnaround times and low costs. Should help you a lot If you have good connections in CA.
Good luck!

You will also be up against AI design companies like 3Shape Automate at $1.99 for a crown design. Not every bodies cup of tea but that is some of your competition out there.

As others stated, the market is already saturated and a lot of them are scraping the bottom of the barrel for clients. Most labs provide this service as well, so you aren't just competing with overseas folks. Then you throw in the AI curve ball, which will probably eliminate most design services completely in the near future, i would rethink this business strategy. Sure, anyone can make something work and maybe you are 'that guy' but as the old saying goes, the riches are the niches. If I was a Dentist nowadays, especially with a cad/cam background I would dive into surgical guides in a heart beat but even that may turn into AI as well...but that would get you started and let you navigate yourself to the next division of your empire. Just my $0.02.

what a surprise a dentist comes up with this great idea to make money out of lab work because its so much easier and more profitable than working in the surgery doing what you are trained for. i reckon you should have a go at making mobile phones as there is a hole in that market also as there is only 2 maybe 3 main competitors i can think of. FFS

this is kind of like "winning the lotto", and then choosing to go live under a bridge? whats with all the Drs posts in here?

TO be fair, it said he wants to help... not make money. Is this a non-profit situation?
Maybe see if they'll do some free work to help you be more efficient.

Yeah that seems likely…
Foggy is apt. Rainbows for you.

Can you design 5 for free for me to see what you can do? jk but seriously good luck

Like the lab Guy said, the riches are in the niches. Design in a unique way to create that niche. It will last for awhile, but as previously said, AI will cut designer's jobs out, and will do most of the designing within the next ten years -Maybe you could design dentures and partials to create a unique smile design from your laptop on Malibu beach (or anywhere). for a few years until AI catches up to you. We won't feel sorry for you when it does. As a DLT in a midsize lab going digital with a dwindling account list of analog hangers-on doctors, I can't tell you what I"ll be doing in ten years. I can't tell you what labs will be doing in ten years either. The competition is now worldwide. We actually have drivers that deliver products to our doctors and somehow that sounds ancient.

i think what you are looking for is GFY shak towards daniel i certainly feel that way.
