Hello all! Just checking in to see if any fellow Canadian labs have an address for their noble alloys. Some American companies have Canadian warehouses, but as soon as those run dry the tariffs kick in, leading to ridiculous prices. Has anyone run into this yet and can anyone recommend companies for high noble alloys (for its beautiful lustre) that are not subjected to any tariffs?

P.S. Strictly meant to learn about alternative ways within this new political situation, not to discuss them please.

want to tell me where the germans store their gold?

is it fort knox?

cause that's where most of it is.

make em out of high quality canadian titanium, i say. forget the reclamation of gold and precious metals. make teeth out of titanium.

With all due respect, I am interested in suppliers for high noble alloys because of political changes, not to discuss the political changes or other 'general ideas' as to what we should do instead of previous metals. As some of my clients specifically request noble alloy crowns I am looking for alternative routes that are unaffected by any tariffs. I may not be alone in this, thought I'd post here and see.

Sure. I assume you mentioned this as an idea and not because you have good experiences with one that you are willing to share? :D

hes talking about tariffs, in oz our alloys come from mainly German companies that buy their gold from where ever the tariff applies to stuff going into USA which of course will bump the price going out of USA so buy from somewhere else the gold in fort knox isnt forsale it just sits there. Or come to the 21st century and make zi crowns

I don't know about the regulatory barriers to this, but in principle, one could probably locally reproduce at least some of the traditional precious industry alloys using investment-priced precious metal bullion sourced locally from banks. 25% tariff rate might leave a refiner enough room to make a couple of bucks.

I was under the impression that gold was taken off the tariff list?

High Nobel alloys in general are going through the roof and C&B alloys are (for the first time?) higher in cost than the regular high noble ceramic alloys.

There were articles in Swiss publications, recently, saying that tonnes of gold bars were shuffled back to Switzerland, after it was sent to the US because of potential tariffs, since Switzerland it is deemed safer to store gold... Make out of it what you want...

But Fort Knox hold definitely 'a lot' of the world's gold reserve.

Just spitballing here, but I wonder if you could skirt the tariffs in a way that'd work well for our industry... like, looking at the categories of goods with applied tariffs- https://www.canada.ca/en/department...per-cent-tariffs-effective-march-13-2025.html - gold or gold-clad scrap intended for recycling is subject to the 25% rate, but mixed scrap containing other metals is exempt. What if you just sent people mixed scrap/cutoffs that happened to have the same proportions of metals as a particular desired alloy?
