This last Friday our lab got hit with a metal ordering scam...

Someone called up our metal suppliers and ordered a $2500 order at each for Saturday overnight delivery and tried re-routing the orders to themselves without our knowledge.

Luckily we have a solid relationship with our suppliers as they called to confirm with us directly after orders were placed and we were able to cancel the orders in time as they thought they might be fraudulent.

Keep an eye out for this scam, as one of our suppliers said this isn't a first time for this scam. If I find out anymore about how they got our name I'll update this thread but so far details are with authorities so Ill leave them to do their job for now.

Would you mind telling us which supply houses this was?
The scam may only be with where the scammers went dumpster diving.

Many suppliers, not just one
So far:
Jensen
Argen
Dentsply
Aurident
Ivoclar
Sterngold

Hopefully their aren't others that we don't know about that we will find out about next month
All these suppliers did due diligence and stopped the orders

Yes, we were one of those companies and I can tell you that the scammers called back multiple times during the day, trying to find someone who would enter the order but they didn't succeed. One tip, they are trying to order high value alloys with a lot of gold in them. Definitely beware!!

To think, if they would of taken all that energy they did in this scam and learned some of this wonderful industry...they'd be so better off.

The high AU factor means they have a friend in the metal scrap business. And that'll be the weak point that trips them up. Hopefully sooner than later. These alloys are too specific to just get ignored when they get assayed as bullion.
