We begin by designing a dental model from the scan. Virtual teeth are placed into the edentulous area.This is exported to 3D Slicer, but you can use your own implant planning program. In 3D Slicer, the model with the virtual teeth is superimposed on to the CBCT, by means of anatomical landmarks. The XYZ planes are correctly set, a cylinder is created which correlates the drill diameter, which is set into the correct position. The inferior alveolar nerve is marked in the mandible. When this is done, the dental model, the implant cylinder and the nerve are exported. Blender uses the XYZ co-ordinates which were set in 3D Slicer. The Guide Designer module takes over.
