Hello DLN,

We still get a good amount of Gold PFM cases on implants, where we use UCLA abutments.
In order to help my customers anticipate the metal costs, I'd like to provide them with a guideline of average weight per tooth.
For example, Anterior tooth: [#g to ##g], Posterior tooth [##g to ####g].

I am sure one of you has done the exercise and compiled average weights...
Care to share?

TIA

Basically, how many grams they should reasonably expect to be charged for, so they can quote the patient a worst-case scenario and reduce sticker shock.

I couldn't do this. Way to much variation. Switch them to ceramic crowns and milled custom abutments
and avoid these issues. ;)

For instance, we charge a flat $450 for a screw retained zirconia or emax monolithic crown on a custom abutment.

I would never do that ever. You have no idea the size or length of any restoration and you will end up losing eveytime you guess before hand.
Go back and look at your most expensive fee and use that as the benchmark.

Just think how rich we could be if we could predict the future price of gold and palladium.

Thanks all.

We are unfortunately in a region where a lot of (older) clinicians demand PFMs and if I could snap my fingers and get rid of all the waxing and casting, I would.
We outsource most of it to Argen, which helps, but I'd be much happier producing 100% ceramic/zirconia.

We need to educate them, but some of them will retire before they change.

That’s a function of market forces.
Raise your price price by 50-100$ and watch how fast these “stubborn, I’ll never change” guys change their tune
