Between Doowon, Arum, and Axsys...
There should be a technical manual out there somewhere.
The 5x200 has been a flagship design for many years, but I think they are moving away from the platform with some new machines.
That being said, a manual so that these older machines can be kept running is imperative.
I purchased 5 of these machines from the Smile Direct Auction.
SDC made some changes to the setup of these machine, inclusing adding an ionizer, removing the coolant circuit, and adding some sensors for the vacuum pump.
They made some external modifications by drilling in baskets and fixing the front plate to the machine with screws.
I'm attempting to get rid of everything but the ionizer. It's inline with the air, so it does not impact wiring or functionality.
I'm struggling with machine initialization. Everything powers on, but the motion control does not power on and initialize.
SO, they have cued something in that I'm not providing that allows the machine to start and home.
A technical manual woud go a LONG way to helping me trace out the problem
I'd also be willing to pay a premium if someone knows these machines inside out and is willing to come to Raleigh and help me rehab these machines.
But we'd HAVE to get them going to make the trip worth it.

I'm hoping that someone out there can help.
Let me know if you can.

Chris

I am not familiar with these mills, just thinking out load here... Most industrial cnc machines come with relocation detection built in, requiring a reset code to operate. Or you are missing some hardware dongle(s) ? Try to find out where these machines have come from

Not an industrial control. Windows based. Software starts but it's not getting something it needs. If you are familiar with imes controls, several conditions must be met for the control to initialize and prompt for the power button to be pressed to power the amps and servo control. I think there's some signal needed for the front panel to become active and allow the machine to be "turned on" and motors ready to home....

They came from the Smile Direct Club auction. SDC were using these beautiful machines to trim aligners......

Hi Chris,
Im looking at purchasing an ex Smile Direct 5x-200 as well. But I'm not sure if I will get the machine up and running. Were you able to get yours working? Any tips or tricks?

thanks

These machines are Versamill's from us, modified for our TrimExpert clear aligner trimming solution.
They were further modified by SDC and who knows what they did on their own. I do know that most of these machines used in production were not well maintained so their short, mid and long term reliability is of concern.

In any event, please let me know your best phone number and I can have someone give you a call to discuss.

Honestly, I'm not super-keen on sending out someone but maybe a phone conversation (that does not turn into massive ongoing calls) can point you in the right direction.

How about we start there?
