The old Lava machine is a work horse, but there just some things it cant do. Occasionally I have the need to mill Lava blocks on our more capable, 5 axis Origin machine. So, I designed this holder to accommodate that need. Today I milled a LAVA framework for a screw retained case, that has two different screw directions.

Its a good example of the cross compatibility this gives me. It also allows me to mill that quick single when the lava mill is too busy. I love redundancy :) What do you guys think?

and.. Add this to my other baby: My completely modular, reusable generic lava block. These make my milling system is very versatile :)

You should create a similar 98mm fixture (with a step on it) so that lava blocks can be loaded into other mills that accept discs with the 10mm step. I would buy that!

How do you keep the mill so clean?

I've thought about that, However, the lava block's corners would poke out of the sides of a 98mm disk... so it cant be done without modifying the machine, or the lava block.

Yep, He has. There are actually several people who make them now. I've had mine for a few years now, but its primarily been used for in house production, and hasn't been paraded around these forums at all.

While they achieve the same job, ***'s fixture is actually quite different from mine. His is a simple, one piece design that is very effective.

My lava fixture is a bit more complex, but I wanted to be able to switch materials from block to block quickly. It uses a clam-shell design that clamps the material in place as opposed to gluing.
