Hi All,

We've been printing models for the past 12-months, however some cases seem to brick the model builder app as it tries to load in an articulator. We've been unable to find a solution as the problem seems to be different case-to-case. We've been working around this copying jobs, making new order forms and playing around but no concrete solutions/mixed results. Does anyone else have this issue? Could it be a hardware problem regarding the computer?

Thanks

If it is the Scan itself that has defects, right click on the order and export as stl.

Then load it into meshmixer and check with the inspector tool ( Analysis > Inspector ) or you can manually repair the scan data as you wish.

Export result as stl again from inside Meshmixer and then reimport into new/edited/copied 3 Shape Order.

E.G. We have 1 Doc where there are almost always artefacts inside the tooths which cause complete jaw to disappear in Model Builder.

edit: it is worth noticing though, that the doctors normally are obligated to deliver consistent data, at least i read that somewhere :D

try Medit Link, which is free and try to build your model if you have issues. I like the medit app better than 3shape builder.

Model Builder is allergic to certain scan artifacts. Usually problems are Double Surfaces (which appear in edges) or separate floating parts (bits of data separate from main surface).

IOS scans are basically surfaces and when surfaces have bad edges/borders, issues occur. I have never had any troubles with properly closed and solid models, only surface stuff. Funny thing is, data that simply fails in model builder may open it nicely in other 3sh module.

Tell docs to clean up/refine edges/borders (using line trim tool or smthing which should in any half decent scanner software) before sending stuff.

You can export a thing as stl and use blender/meshmixer and refine edges yourself. Depending ones experience (or belief i should say) one may elect to use, or not to use, editng tricks that involve "remesh" or "make solid" because those operations result minor changes to geometry of a 3d-object.
