Hi all.

I am interested in getting the E1 but was wondering if they scan Alginate impressions.

All the different scanners I have looked at that say they scan impressions, don't actually mention the materials they can scan.

Obviously they scan most/all the PolyVinyl types used in C@B but none of the website mention scanning Alginate.
Is that because it is not possible as yet?

I thought it would be an easy answer to find, but after over an hour last night looking through Dental Wings, Kulzer, 3Shape and every other scanner webpage i could not find any mention of alginate scans.

Thanks in advance

Interesting, if no one posts I try scanning one on Monday.

That's going to be interesting. Algnate doesn't really have any 'sheen' but they need to be slightly damp all the time and the exterior water microlayer may give some pretty refraction patterns. Aside from most of them are undercut-heavy.

Are you impressing a model, yourself, or asking a doc to do one for you?

As always,, tell me to go jump in a lake if I'm digging too deeply.

I run a Denture clinic and realise i need to move forward into the digital world.
Its obviously a huge outlay upfront with scanners, 3D Printers, Milling machines and Intra Oral scanners.

With Alginate scanning i was wondering if it would be a viable option to scan the alginate and print a model.

I go to local football clubs at the start of football season and can do upwards of 50 impressions in 1 night. It would be brilliant to have an intra oral scanner, scan them all and print models to make the mouthguards on. No more kids vomiting hahaha. But the costs of the intra oral scanners are just too much if I am also looking at purchasing 3D printer and model scanner. So that's what lead me to think maybe scan the alginate and print the models

I was also thinking for partial dentures cases if i could take the primary impression in alginate, scan and then print a custom tray, so would not even need a model.

Doesn't seem like scanning alginate is possible, well not accurately enough to make it worth the while at the moment.

Thanks fr the responses guys :)

trimmed impressions that havent bottomed out, dont have wierd voids, tissue recessions, and encapsulated tongue, yeah sure. should scan fine.

on normal people though, with all our perfect imperfections no it wont. it might work a few times but will become a pain in the butt.

get an IOS and be done with it.

finnster or tony which ever look at the carestream intra oral scanner its pretty reasonable in price if you dont go to ivoclar, there are other resellers that will look after you.is it true that you guys have water go down the drain in the opposite direction down under.

Thanks. I have just been talking with a Rep here and the Carestream 3600 does look great. $32K here so may have to add it to the finance growing list

In regards to the water. Our water goes down the drain in the correct direction. Unfortunately yours is backward ;)

Here in Aus the b+w TRIOS is $3000 cheaper then the Carestream, but it has an anuual $2500 licence fee. The Carestream has no annual fee at all
