    Camera Flash Question

Username, conversations about cameras and photography tend to drift away from the basics of dental needs. I do hope this helps simplify your needs, with the Nikon 105 mm lens and the R1C1 flash that you have. I would say the important parts of dental photography - flash based, macro (up close)...

    Camera Flash Question

Hello username. I do understand your pain with these cameras. I would only offer an easy and low cost option for you. If you could find a used Nikon D300 on ebay or similar, you would discover that 'everything would just work. The SU800 Commander is by far the best way to get proper flash...

    Announcing the All-New Versamill 5X400

Hello brayks, Do you mind outlining the differences with the Versamill 5XS. They seem to be virtually the same as a mill.

3M Lava Esthetic Fluorescent Full-Contour Zirconia

Thanks for the comment. My lab actually said they outsourced the Emax Multi, since they didn't use it at their lab. It seems that lab techs, and their abilities, are as varied as dentists. Confusing time is prosthetic dentistry on all fronts. Thanks again.

3M Lava Esthetic Fluorescent Full-Contour Zirconia

Thanks for the info. Question, if you restored 5-13 - and didn't need to match anything, do you think the restorations (after your creative staining) look as good as Emax?

3M Lava Esthetic Fluorescent Full-Contour Zirconia

Thanks for the replys. The 3M rep said they are releasing 8 new shades to add the the original limited shades they released. As reps do - he said that when doing a blind test of crowns (I know, lol) comparing to Emax and others, he said they observers picked the Lava Esthetic over Emax and...

3M Lava Esthetic Fluorescent Full-Contour Zirconia

Yes Robert, I asked him that exact question. He said the bond to the FCZ was much stronger than the bond to the tooth (dentin & enamel). I personally would not use it for veneers, but would try and use it for full crowns that need esthetic results - like I have benn using pressed Emax. As you...

3M Lava Esthetic Fluorescent Full-Contour Zirconia

Even though I am a dentist, I attended the LMT Chicago meeting last week. I listened to the 3M rep discuss 3M™ Lava™ Esthetic Fluorescent Full-Contour Zirconia. He said it could be used for veneers – which caught me off guard. This material seems like the best possible FCZ crown currently...

    Shade matching

Yes, good point. We just sandblast the metal shade tab holders and the histograms will look normal again.

    Shade matching

I understand. The light source - if you want pure white light - should be 6500°K. In my office, all of our flourescent bulbs are 6500°K. The very best light source is the camera flash - which is the only consistency - and now White Balanced to provide color accuracy. This color you can trust...

    Shade matching

In my humble opinion – as a dentist that does mostly cosmetic work - the king of shade taking is a DSL camera that has a ”Custom white balance” and have that picture displayed on a calibrated and profiled monitor. Really just making the camera and monitor color accurate. This takes 15 minutes...

    Model build software .STL input

I do love reading and learning here on DLN. I will try and give an honest answer. I don't know how we can connect like-minded lab techs and dentists. I would think that a show like the Chicago Midwinter could be a place that could happen. A planned event to get like minded teams together...

    Model build software .STL input

In a perfect world - more dentists should meet the lab techs on this site. Bad dental marrages are the problem. As a dentist, I do know that we as a group - just don't know how to find great lab techs. We just don't know how. The better dentist will respect you fully and pay your fee (it's not...

    Dentist looking for CDT

Robert I will suggest that Juan joins DLN. BTW, it was the great Mark Jackson that connected me to Juan. Mark, in the short time I knew him, was wonderful. He printed the first Trios model for me - no charge - just a wonderful soul. It was reading DLN that I discovered how he gave himself to...

    Dentist looking for CDT

Thanks Robert, I did just that and found him listed on the National Board for Certification in Dental Laboratory Technology, in their directory. Thanks, you are everywhere - and a helpful dude. We still need to have a Trios meeting for North America. Of course, you should be the 1st President!
